Title: Grafdigger's Cage Beating

My animate dead deck is currently tied for 2nd strongest out of ten decks that I have made. I streamlined it to monoblack and watched its power soar.

Now that damned single mana costing Cage is coming to ruin it all, and Black is absolute @$$ when it comes to artifact destruction.

I'm looking for ways to deal with this accursed first turn drop and so far I've come up rather dry.

Phyrexian Tribute needs two creatures to go off, something that I'm not likely to have considering I only have four creatures that coust under six that are castable, making a total of eight actually castable creatures out of...sixteen?

The only other things that have come up are powder keg, Lux cannon, Ratchel bomb, and steel hellkite.  So far I'm leaning towards the keg because of its speed, but I'd prefer something better.

I heard a legend years ago (say like ten) that if you tap an artifact with a continuous effect, such as Winter's Orb, said effect becomes inactive until aforementioned artifact is untapped. If this is true, I'd totally rock Kill Switch in my deck and never look back, but looking at the comphrensive rules I've found nothing close to supporting this notion.

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Powder Keg is your best bet...there's just no other way for black to deal with damn cage. (Aside from splashing for another color). It's just the balance of the game honestly. If you can get the cage with a Thoughtseize and a Surgical extraction that is also a solution, but to be honest Powder Keg or ratchet bomb is more practical. I personally dig ratchet bomb over powder keg, it just sounds cooler....

Best of luck though all the same...

Lux Cannon can work with Unwinding Clock.

the point of lux cannon is destroy the thing, adding in an unwinding clock is going to take out too many cards from the deck and ruin balance! also, can you change your pic back? i like this one less

Lux canon is kind of a build-around card...!

Plus the fact that it costs 4 and takes a while to build up.

Gate to Phyrexia might be an option

Also Mental Misstep

You can make Lux Cannon work if you run alot of removal to stall on.

Truth be told I was thinking about Mental Misstep but wasn't certain if it would catch it on time. What do you guys think?

Looks like I'll start looking for powder kegs, regardless.

I'd love to make a surgical extraction with corrupted zendikon/ Eradicate/Thran Lens. However I feel like S.E. would take too much set up/luck and still doesn't protect me from a first turn drop for my current reanimation deck. *sigh*

It has the same probability of catching it as your opponent has of dropping it

Hmm...well it also depends on your play area too...where do you play at, and what's the meta there?

Ratchet bomb, explosives, and powder keg are good for taking out tokens or red beats, and misstep is good against burn and....! Anything that costs 1 or less mana!
