Title: Modular + Undying?

Especially after the release of the new Mikaeus, everyone is getting excited about the implications of persist and undying. But I just thought of something else: how does undying interact with modular? Both abilities are described as "when this creature dies...". So my question is, can you arrange the abilites so that modular triggers first, moving the +1/+1 counters to something else, and then have Undying check and, seeing that there are no longer any +1/+1 counters, return it to play?

My reservations are that both abilities might refer to the moment that the creature died, and not care about the current state of the creature. I figured I'd open up the question to any of the rules-savvy people out there, or people with really strong opinions.

Haven't seen the official rules governing undying yet but based on the reminder text I'm thinking no.
Undyings reminder text says "...goes to graveyard, if it had no". This is the intervening "if" clause. Since the condition wasn't meet the ability won't trigger at all and it stays in the grave

Actually Undying says "When a creature with undying dies" which sounds stupid enough. Modular states... well $#!+. It states the same thing.

This doesn't mean that we are finished yet. If we continue with Undying it reads "When a creatures with undying dies, if it had no +1/+1 counters on it, return it to the battlefield under its owners control with a +1/+1 counter on it."
Modular reads: "This enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it. When it dies, you may put its +1/+1 counters on target artifact creature."

Clearly, a creature with modular that would be able to transfer over counters would have at least one counter on it, thus having said counter that undying checks for. So I am on the train with Gericault5 in saying that the IF happens before the MAY, since the if happens at the moment of death, and the may occurs after. At least as far as I see it.
