Sensei's Divining Top is WAY better. It can combo, and it lets you draw the card that you are looking for. Also, you can use the ability multiple times in a turn.

Crystal Ball lets you put cards at the bottom of your library, but doesn't let you immediately draw.

it's the ability to put it on the bottom that made me question whether or not it was comparable with sensai's. besides that, crystal ball is obviously the worse of the 2.

If crystal ball is obviously the worse of the two, why did you ask our opinions on which one was better?

even though the ability to put a card on the bottom of my library has been helpful, i think it's safe to say that sensai's is better.

true, i would play it if it only cost one or two to play. Also, how in the world is sensei's only an uncommon?

That card should have been uncommon.

The only reason its SO good is because you can only destroy it with krosan grip, or any activated ability shutdown+artifact removal!

Also wizards refused to ban disciple because it was a common, they so silly!

They did eventually, but they had to ban the other SEVEN cards first! Raffinity was so OP...! Not as bad as combo winter, but still!

So why exactly was the disciple so good?

This is something I never got.

Because you had ravager, a sac outlet that got BIG, and you didnt even need to attack with it, because you could draw 2 cards for U, play them for almost free with affinity, sacrifice them, drawing cards with skullclamp, and keep doing damage without ever attacking!

Seems more like a problem with the entire mirrodin cycle more than a problem with disciple.

Yes, they didnt accurately anticipate the interactions, but they had already printed the cards after the first 2 sets, and in Dawn, they tried to compensate by throwing in LOTS of artifact hate and banning skullclamp, but it just decreased the consistency a little, so they banned all of the artifact lands and ravager, and then disciple!

Since your entire board is artifacts, you can sacrifice all of your lands and creatures to have disciple deal massive amounts of damage (even with only 1 out!)! One of the main problems was how little disciple cost!

Also, going back to the subject of this thread, senseis is better than crystal ball, but preordain is better than ponder!
