Title: The Planeswalker In You

I read an articel not to long ago that I found interesting. It reminded me that there is a fantasy side of roleplay to the game of Magic the Gathering.

Remember that in the game of Magic you are a planeswalker set out to duel others. Every spell in your deck is one that you have learned over your travels and experiences.

With this being said, I wondered what is your story as a fellow planeswalker.

What is/are the colors that would best represent you? This does not mean that you do not possess the ability to draw upon the other colors.

What plane of existence did you originally come from? As of right now there are 8 planes of existence in the game. Innistrad (the newest and least understood), Dominaria, Kamigawa, Ravnica, Shadowmoor/Lorowyn, Zendikar, Mirrodin, Alara, Dominaria.

Where have your travels taken you?

What is your mission/goals, if any?

My alias is as always Ghostfire. My colors that best represent me are White/Red/Black.

I was borned and raised on the plan of Dominaria where I was a soldier in my early adult life. During this time was the War between Dominaria and Phyrexia. So many lives lost, so many friends laying dead across the landscape.

My spark ignited after the lose of my wife and children when they were attacked in a raid by several  Phyrexian Slayers.  All my rage and fury unleashed within an explosion of force never felt by myself before. All that remained when I awoke was the shattered mechanical parts of the machines former body scattered across the plain. From that point my rebirth began and vowed to not rest until the complete destruction of Phyrexia.

The war continued on in Dominaria. My tactics became fierce, and my aroggance never lending me many friends I continued on my own. I eventually decided that the best tactic for my  revenge was to not only understand my enemy but to use their advantages to my own advantage.

After the war was over I was lost. My mission completed and the war was over. I drifted accross the planes wishing only for oblivion. At this time I discovered Ravnica. For once I felt like I found a new home and solice. The different guilds upon Ravnica reminided me of the planar shifts and intermengling of powers.

I eventually made my way to Lorwyn, Zendikar, and then to Mirrodin where all deep seeded fears came to fruition. Phyrexia had some how survived its once thought destruction.

Older, more powerful and controlled, and sannity intact I began my old mission anew: The Destruction of ALL that is Phyrexia.

My name is Gorthan, I have been around for a very long time, and am one the most adventurous planeswalkers.  Though I was raised by the rebels, I soon left and found other tribes to lead.

I did write this up once.

My character was basically this ancient Eldrazi that was awakened in Dominaria and went on a rampage (B/R/U) believing if he destroyed everything that he could rest once more. He devoured artifacts for power. Urza was able to defeat him, but he tricked Urza and prevented his destruction by placing himself in a SIMULACRUM. During this time he gathered dragons to his aid, but again the Dragons were defeated (shifting to B/U). He began raising the dead to his aid and when they were slain his final ditch effort was to make a deal with Yawgmoth and stealing URZA'S ARMOR laid a Pestilence upon the land. Having fulfilled his mission of destroying everything he went to rest again in his UNHOLY CITADEL. Nicol Bolas had searched for him and inadvertantly awakened him and the Eldrazi. Still within his Simulacrum he wasn't recognized by Nicol and being much wiser now he allowed the confusion and chaos of the Eldrazi to escape back to his home plane.

He is now the wise teacher, happy in his new form. He is flanked by two other Planeswalkers. He is known for Mind Control and mind erasing (decking and lockdown). Villains who enter the plane forget why they came and those who come to understand their spark are taught all the arts and many join his legion which include Eldrazi.

My name is Muriel Kadoth,

My home is now nothing...due to the awakening of the Eldrazi...mindless engines of destruction...they took it all...everything...tell me friend what can you trade for solitude when there's nothing left?

And so I wandered...and wandered...praying for the oblivion I had watched my world fall too...and soon my wish was granted...There it stood...massive, towering above the tallest of trees, the destroyer of my world. I laughed...

"YES!" I screamed at the creature, tears stained my face as I continued my mixed expression of rage, ecstacy, and sorrow...but it stopped...It ignored me...It walked right past me...

"NO!!!" I pleaded, "Please!? I'll do anything!" but to no avail...it left me there...in the wasteland...alone...it took the one thing I had left...my existence...And so I laid down and waited for my fate...minutes, hours, days? I can't even remember how long I lay before my body began to shut down...and as I slipped to the brink, I felt something within me ignite...almost like a flame and the feeling spread...the hunger and thirst subsided...I felt...nothing...suddenly the scenery began to shift...I panicked as I was suddenly  face down...I scrambled to my feet immediately...only to fall down again...there before me stood strange figure...it stood only 5 feet tall, but it's prescence felt...powerful...I almost felt like bowing...almost....

My cry for help had been answered

"So," The figure spoke, in a voice that sounded like a mixture of a scream, a whisper, and a raspy voice, "You are awake."

"Who are you?" I questioned trying not to collapse.

"I am many things...but for the most part I am amazed to see the results were a success."

I started to speak, but fell over instantly...why was I so weak?

"Ah yes...you will be experiencing physical weakness for some time...but then again complications are common..."

Now I was pissed...who the hell did he think he was? I rose angrily and struck him in the face...he vanished...leaving only a taint of black liquid on my fist...

"You said you'd do anything...but I'll give you more than death." The voice echoed around me, "You will be the first of many"

The black liquid started to tear into my flesh...surprisingly painless...but it was not pleasant...

"I couldn't figure it out when it came to the originals, but these new ones are far less...but still the potential they have is phenomenal!"

I felt my bones strengthen as the flesh stripped away...and my broken mind began to heal...but with new thoughts...

"You will be the first of a new breed...one who isn't bound by mere logic or reason."

I saw it...the flames, they towered above everything...burning it away...absolution...

"You are released, I now set you free."

I cackled as the black substance faded away...leaving only bone and sinew...I felt whole again...

"Go forth...and share your vision."

Flames erupted around me as I watched the darkness around me burn away...

Boldly I proclaimed...

"I will share it...they will see...the most glorious destruction from earth to sea shall be spread...welcome to oblivion!"

And now for the planeswalker stats

The planeswalker in me, he's a fun guy to be;

Although he's a teen, he looks mighty mean;

He might seem like a nerd, alone in the herd;

But he'll pwn the soil, he'll control the Roil!

Evading me is like trying to see;

An LED that's forward voltage is .3!

I come from Zendikar, from an age far past;

That makes me seem stupid. (Don't worry, I'm fast.)

I'm a pirate that's not afraid to say, "Avast!"

But don't you worry, 'cause I'm a magician through and through;

And Magic: The Gathering's the thing I love to do.

As long as we cooperate, we'll do just fine.

But be on the lookout, cause I'll take what I think's mine!

you know this could make a pretty cool format, Since its based off a fantasy system. Maybe there is a way that each player can have there own special plainswalker ability, or a way to create a card of themselves with plainswalker abilities. How would the abilities work though? what is the system that would determine what your abilities would be? Would it be randomized or chosen abilities based off of already created plainswalkers, or would you be able to create your own compilation of abilities from a created list of many abilities that the makers of the game could create? Like lets say they they make this list, they can have the abilities work well with each other or well against each other. By doing this, it can create another strategic system beyond the cards that is affiliated with the game. One, you have to strategically make your deck as it stands now, but you can add that step two of strategically creating your characters (you the players) build. I think this would be pretty cool but i have no clue how smooth it would work. Idk maybe ill create my own version of it and play it with my friends.

It's easy to look at cards, based on color, and consistency and figure out what abilities your character would have.

I think what you should do is have a Planeswalker card and pick 3 or 4 spells that are your favorite. I think you could pick common, uncommon, rare kind of idea.

Shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

+1 Return target creature from your graveyard to your hand (raise dead)

-2 Put a counter on target creature that creature may not attack or block and its activated abilities cannot be played (arrest)

-6 Until the start of your next turn. Your life total may not drop below one, and you may not lose the game and your opponents cannot win the game (angel's grace)

-9: Reveal the top 7 cards of target opponent's library. Put all non-creatures cards into their graveyard and all creature cards into play under your control.

i think your abilities should be based off the deck colors you are running. Green decks will use green plainswalker abilities etc.

I can see baseing your abilities to complimant your deck if one where to roleplay in this way. But just to keep fresh the memory that a planeswalker should be able to draw from multiple sources of magic, so there should be no reason not to have fun with making your own planeswalker for the hell of it.

My planeswalker I just posted complements my Dark Boros deck design. I am not really sure what I would pick if I were to complement my Treefolk Deck.

It would be to complement your deck at the time. A graveyard deck with a built in sac engine would work great for you.

I mainly think of myself as a Red/Blue planeswalker
Starting loyalty = 4                1UUR

[+1] Deal 2 damage to target creature or player, scry 2. (magma jet)
[-2] Return target nonland permanent and all permanents with the same name to their owners hand. (echoing truth)
[-7] You have an emblem that says "Whenever an opponent casts a spell for the first time in a turn, counter that spell." (Erayo's essence)

Perhaps a point buy system.

+X Loyalty abilities formula (X= set number for adding loyalty. X can be equal to zero, but cannot be greater than 4. Additionally +X abilities may not exceed a rarity of uncommon)

Formula

Mana Cost + *negative card rarity modifier(See below.)= X.

-X Loyalty abilities formula (X= set number for subtracting loyalty. X can be equal to zero. Additionally -X abilities may be of any rarity)

Formula

Mana Cost +*positive card rarity modifier (See Below) = X. The exception of course being X spells, which may be dealt with on a case by case basis.)

Planeswalker mana cost and starting loyalty.

A planeswalker's CMC is equal to the total cmc of all abilities added together then divided by two. (I.E. Shock ability yields a +1 loyalty ability, fireball yields a -X, and Flamewave yields a -8 loyalty ability.) So this mono red walker's CMC is equal to (1 + 1 +7) divided by 2(Round up) for a total CMC of 5. Now as far as starting loyalty goes, use the following formulas.

If the CMC is greater than the total mana cost of the abilities...

CMC - Cost of abilties = Starting Loyalty

If the CMC is less than the total mana cost of the abilities...

Cost of abilities - CMC = Starting loyalty

As far as the colorless to colored ratio, use these steps...

1.Identify 'all' mana colors on the card.

2. Choose first color (In this example red.)

3.Check cards for mana symbols that match.

4. Add 1 of those mana symbols to the CMC for each card with said symbol on it. (In this case 3 red symbols.)

5. Repeat the process to flesh out your planeswalker's CMC. (All mana that didn't become colored remains colorless. I.E. the planeswalker in this example has 3 red spells so it's CMC is 2RRR.)

So now let's put together our walker...

Flaming Mage    2RRR

Planeswalker- Flaming Mage

+1: Flaming mage deals 2 damage to target creature or player.

-X: Flaming mage deals X damage to target creature.

-8: Deals 4 damage to target player and each creature he or she controls.

Starting Loyalty: 4

*Table: Positive Rarity modifiers

Common    +1

Uncommon +2

Rare +3

Mythic +4

*Table: Negative Rarity modifiers

Common: -1(A loyalty ability reduced to +0 this way may be set to +1 instead.)

Uncommon -2(A loyalty ability reduced to +0 this way may be set to +1 instead.)

Gorthan  {5}

As Gorthan enters the battlefield, chose a creature type and a color

[+1]: put a 2/2 creature token of the chosen creature type and color into play

[0]: search your library for a creature of the chosen type and color

[-2]: you gain an emblem, "creatures of the chosen creature type gain +1/+1 and landwalk of the chosen color."

[-5]: exile all planeswalkers, each player searches his library for all planeswalker cards and exiles them, then repeats this process for his graveyard and hand.

Come on, I am interested in more stories. Most have all been from Dominaria. Anyone from another planes?

The planes that I listed are the official ones listed on the Wizards homepage. However, on Wiki there are another great many of other (sub) planes that are listed.

Be creative and inspire yourself from the decks that you love to use. Also, of you are so bold and creative, connect your story to that of the world of MTG from the books. There are so many connections of creatures, magic, war, trust, ect within them. I seriously doubt that 3 books each 300 pages can tell the entire story of what happend within each cycle.

More planeswalkers are going to be mad by Wizards soon. Look at the R/U Izzet guy and the U/G Merfolk that should be poping up soon. Expand the story of our treasured world and enrich it more.

I hail from the backwater plane of ulgrotha also known as homelands, a plane long under the tyranny of the Sengir family. Born to devout followers of Serra's dead husband Fareal, I too became a Zealot seeking justice. I hunted many of the dark followers of senger in my time. One time I lead a team of my friends and allies through the dwarven tunnels in an attempt to breach Castle Sengir itself. We were expected and betrayed. I alone survive in a moment of desperation I drew upon the power of the swamp, and in my anger ascended. I rose a mighty undead army, and attmepted to end the baron only to have him escape throuh a planar portal. I now scour the multiverse vowing to bring him to justice for his crimes. Better?

This is gunna mix so many different genres and stories, but here goes:

I hail from the Plane of Kamigawa. Samurai born, I earned my Daisho by collecting the ears of 20 goblines from the Shadow Realm, during the Winter of Blades. Content to guard my clan from the Kami haunting the mountains beyond the borders of the Amitu family, I never dreamed I was destined for greatness.
When the Kami rebeled against the established balance of life and death, mystic and spiritual, I was already on the front lines. As I survived massacre after massacre, my legend grew. and with it, my ego. Finally, believing myself to be indestructable and able to destroy any being alive, I sought after the God of the Kami. With a blessing from Ameturasu, my visage changed to the noble and loyal dog like form of a Hound Archon, and I set off.
I went beyond the mountains that until now had been the boundry of my exsistance. I sought in vain for clues of this great general's whereabouts. After a year and a day of futile search, a storm brewed on the horizon, a storm to mark the ages. Finding myself near a cave in the mountains, I proceeded to stow away inside, unkowing the fate that would await me inside.
As I slept, I dreamed of a great many things. Hideous monsters marching besides me, as I slew heroes from my memory. People fleeing me as I led a macabre procession through a town that I had never seen. Children crying as I stood over them, clutching the torn bodys of their protectors.
Finally seeing the illusions for what they were, I roused myself from my slumber and roared a challenge to the ethreal skies; and that's when I saw him. Descending from the Storm-tossed clouds, came a man of average build, seeming to be the most innocuous of shepherds. But he held in his hand a blade of unrivaled power, the Lo Blade.
Confidant in my abilities, yet terrified for my soul, I drew forth Talon, the Wakazashi I had earned that dismal winter, and it's companion Katana. As the mythic General's feet touched the ground, I charged forward, and became lost in the Dance of the Blades.
For many hours we fought, until finally the unnamed being smote in the side, and hurled me towards the precipice of the mountain. I stared at this Demon, he raised Lo to end my life. That was when it happened. Something within me snapped, and power flooded into my being. Drugging my soul of the newfound power, I hurled it at the Kami's Ruler. It ripped his physical form asunder, and as his spirit strove to retain it's cohesion, I swept up the Lo Blade, and slashed essence into oblivion.
Thus was Dagor, the Planeswalker, born.

Dagor, the Bladelord   2GWR

+2 Dagor fights target creature. He deals damage equal to his loyalty counters
-4 Put a Prayer token into play. Treat this token as a 1/1 Red White and Green Spirit Creature Cumulative Upkeep 2. As long as this token is in play, Dagor has Hexproof and all damage dealt to him is decreased to 1.
-12 Look at target opponents hand, library and battlefield. remove all creature cards revealed this way from the game.

@ pinkie: I thought about doing it cumulative 1, but that just seemed too broken. I wanted to token to be irritating, but dealable. But hey, if I can get away with it, I'd make it dumulative 1 in a heartbeat. and I agree with the just White idea. Cuz Dagor has the green ability (fight) and the red's ability to just remove all threats... Hmm... I do believe I shall adapt. :) thanx for the idea!

@ghostfire: glad you approve. :) I am quite proud of how well the Reader's Digest version translated.

the ability is overpowered, but I think it works ok as the cost makes it extemely unlikely to hit it anyway.

Yeah his last ability seems a little bit OP! If they arent playing burn or mill they have literally no way to kill you! Maybe make it cost more?!

I dunno. I'd say Jace is overpowered, with removing all cards from the library. Dagor leaves all sorcery, instants, enchanment, artifact, land and even planeswalker cards behind. And while I know that the most obvious Win Con's with those options seem to be Mill and Burn, Many of my decks (Soldier, insect, Lock to name a few) would be hampered, but by no means stopped. Plus his ability says creature CARDS. Any Tokens in play would stay there.

What about this one:

Justin Bieber, Eardrum Slayer 2WR

+2: Put a 1/1 pink Fan Girl token on the battlefield.

-2: Justin Bieber sings "Somebody to Love" and make all Fan Girls creatures gains +1/+1 and trample against Security blocks until end of turn.

-8: Justin Bieber deals 3 damage to the eardrum of each player for each Fan Girl token screaming on the battlefield.

Starting Loyalty: 2

EDIT: Color modified, white + red makes the awesome color PINK.

I think his starting loyalty should be higher, and his +2 should be a +1! Also, his tokens need a color, and he should be UW, not R!

@PinkiePie: You're giving attention to things like colours, loyalty, etc. to a planeswalker that deals damage to the ear of a player and that sings "Somebody to Love"?

How about we stop talking about Justin Beiber? This is just increasing how famous (more of infamous) he is.

Sweet merciful Celestia, that picture's big. I can barely make out what it's of... wait a second, it is Celestia, isn't it?

Also, you will never carve a pumpkin as awesome as this one:

I got one for you Soulless Corporate Music Exec!

Bieber!, Summon Legendary Marketing Tool, */*

When Bieber comes into play gain control of all 1/1s. All creatures with a power great than 2 must block Bieber. Cannot be blocked by walls. Bieber's power and toughness equal to the number of 1/1s in play. Every upkeep put a -1/-1 counter on Bieber. When Bieber leaves play tap a creature for each 1/1 in play and then sacrifice all 1/1s you control.

But you didn't make that yourself, did you?

It's hard to carve pumpkins.
