Title: Will this work? (edh question)

ok im looking at the ban list for edh and im not seeing ante cards. The cards specifically say to remove it from your deck before playing. Edh has to have a 100 card deck including general. If i were to put the ante cards into my deck and before i play remove them, is the shortage of cards in my deck now legal to play with?

Ante cards are not sactioned in any format, but then again EDH is not a sanctioned format.  Its a  casual format and just like any other casual format the validation of anything is determined by the playgroup. not by total strangers, you need to ask them if they consider it to be legal.

Actually commander is a sanctioned format! Thats why they made those decks a little while ago!

Actually commander is a sanctioned format! Thats why they made those decks a little while ago!

I think we might be using different definations of sanctioned 

 For the last few summers, Wizards has done something to support the Casual element of the game, such as Archenemy and Planechase.  Commander was the most recent one.

Wizards and DCI recognize it as a format, just like they recognize Archenemy and Planechase as formats.  However, like Archenemy and Planechase, it is recognized as a casual format, and as such DCI doesn't support tournments of that nature nor have they created formal procedures to govern them, like they have with limited, standards, and eternal formats.  In fact, Wizards has made it clear that they will not get involved with the decision's how EDH is played or what is banned

It might be official, but it's not sanctioned. Also, Gericault just said that it was endorsed, not official. There isn't a ban list.

I thought the ban list was official but WOTC let those other people have control of it cause they didnt feel like doing anything about it?

Not quite updated, Erayo is banned as of the 19th of September I think... and Worldgorger Dragon unbanned.

Ante cards are probably banned. Players play EDH for fun and nothing else... where is the fun in making gamble when others does not agree with it...

and for the best general, I say Grimgrin, corpse-born...

EDH doesn't have an offical banned list.  This list on the Magic website is for MTG: Online, not the paper version-I am not going to speak about that one because I have not played MTG Online

As for the paper "banned" list that is created and maintained by the EDH Rules Committee, located on the website www.MTGcommander.net .  These were the founders of EDH and Wizards has stated they will continue to be the ones running EDH.  Their "banned" list is cards that they suggest not be played, however there is nothing that prevents you from playing anything on that list.  As they say on the same page, parapharsing of course, "should not be played unless the group allows it"

EDH is a causal format where alot is determined by the group.  The playgroup will be the ones who handle what is banned and how to handle the ante cards.

True, Geri, We do usually conform to banned or suggested banned lists because those cats must know what they're talking about based on their experiences.

In casual, there really is no banned card, but I'm sure in all of our various casual groups, there's a list of banned cards agreed upon.

i would say grim grin is really good. He is very similar to thraxumundar but i feel grim is better. But Korlash is pretty damn amazing.

my play group kind of sucks, they let certain people play with certain banned cards, But as soon as i play a good combo on them or a card that isnt banned but should be, i cant play with them. Like the wishes.
