Title: Deck Assistance (Because I have to be different from everyone...)

With Innistrad harbinging in the rotation of my red/black infect deck, I was at first devastated. There just wasn't another standard friendly strategy I wanted to play...I just about wanted to say screw competetive play, and go play in an EDH league (and don't correct me on this one. It was EDH then and it's EDH now.)...but then I stumbled upon something in my binder... 3 copies of  Grand Architect and a wurmcoil engine side by side. It was love at first sight. Cheating into play a theoretical turn two wurmcoil was a dream come true, so I started Building immediately.

Mono-Blue Artifice (Or as I like to call it Blue Gundam (Gundam = Anything artifact with a mana cost of 6 or more.))

Creatures (24)

Grand Architect x4

Azure Mage x4

Treasure Mage x4

Myr Battlesphere x2

Darksteel Sentinel x2

Wurmcoil Engine x4

Neurok Commando x4

Noncreature Spells (12)

Ponder x4

Stoic Rebuttal x4

Cancel x4

Sideboard (15)

Negate x4 (For those control and tempered steel matchups)

Flash Freeze x4 (For those primeval titan players. Redirect this with spellskite you b@$tards!)

Contagion Engine x3 (Aggro hate, and can be tutored for w/ Treasure Mage.)

Dismember x4 (Seriously? How does anyone not love this card? Adios puresteel paladin, you won't be missed)

Ideally it should play like this.

Turn 1: Ponder

Turn 2: Azure Mage

Turn 3: Treasure Mage, Tutoring up a Gundam.

Turn 4: Grand Architect, and now it's gundam time!

So this is what I'll be running due to a certain company forgetting to reprint pyroclasm and duress (screw you WOTC!)  Advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And please note I posted 'DECK ASSISTANCE'...so it's totally orginal...kinda...you know....I'm not sure where I'm going with this joke anymore...meh...

I don't think the Azure Mages are going to be much help. Maybe some 1 cost Blue creature for more accel.

How about Vedalken Certarch?

I would add Caged Sun to have a second ramp method. The reason my Mono-Green deck gets all its big creatures out so consistantly is cause I use both Khalni Heart Expidition and Harrow and Krosan Drover (which I replaced with Keeper of Progenitus which I don't know why I haven't already but am going to replace with Elvish Piper). It may seem like too much mana but take it from a mana ramp junkie. Also with all that mana you might be able to successfully run Tower of Calamities. Another suggestion would be Consecrated Sphinx for insane late game drawpower.

The problem with certarch is that it's ability isn't really relevant. The point of the deck is pretty timmy-ish...tap creatures cast big fatties...I rarely have enough artifacts to trip it...as opposed to azure mage, who can be a bombshell draw in the late game...

Certarch is relevant on 2 levels:

1) youre going to have plenty of artifact fatties out due to tapping all your stuff, so metalcraft helps achieve a lock when you drop a kill condition.
2) hes a T1 Drop. so thats 1 turn earlier for all your stuff.

i used to run Grand Architect with Steel Hellkite, used Kraken Hatchling and Certarch as 1 drops for earlier ramp. but how you wanna go about it is your deal (altho KH isnt legal in like a week from now lol)

The Certarch allows you to get a turn 3 "fatty".

in fact, i went and found my super old decklist from when scars first came out. if you want, i would be happy to let you check it out as a base template.

Thada Adel, and Temple Bell are rotating out now, so you would deff wanna replace them, especially now that Treasure mage exists....this decklist is from October 12, 2010 lol

But here you go!

The deck you posted looks a lot different than this one. This one is based around Grand Architect.

What about my suggestions?

A: You said to use Tower of Calamities

B: You said to use Tower of Calamities

C: You were talking about a mono-green deck, when this deck is mono-blue.

D: You said to use Caged Sun. The biggest cost in his deck is 7, and Caged Sun costs 6. See the problem?

E: Consecrated Sphinx might have been a good idea, if he wasn't using Grand Architect as the main mana source and Treasure Mage as the searcher. Consecrated Sphinx is a non-artifact creature.

You haven't changed at all. You're still the same smart-ass, egotistical, douche.

depending on just 1 creature to power a deck is just a bad idea, Turbine. mine has 4 GA's. but it can stand on its own feet without them in case something happens. besides, like i said, its a rough draft from a year ago that i said he can use as a base. so shhhhhhhhhh.

The only thing wrong that I can see with adding a tower of calamities, is the fact that it only costs four mana, if it costed six it would definatly be worth it.  Caged sun was a terrible idea, it would work really well with the draw mage, and could be searched for, as well as powering up all your creatures.

Don't forget we are dealing with dying here.  he has made it clear he likes WTF situations, the tower is such crap he would consider playing it just because he can.

Caged sun would be a good choice, it might be mana have but its not like this is a quick deck, its going to go late game, where the cage will give a huge edge.  Also the monogreen was just an example.

@dying-for a 1 drop what about hex parasite or even meminite

the problem with memnite or hex parasite is that they dont feed off of the Grand Architect. they are great cards, but dont add any fuel.

@Lin

I'm confused are you saying my idea was bad or is the terrible part a typo.

Another idea I just had would be to side-board Elixer of Immortality. You can search it out with Treasure  Mage and It'll help you recover from your opponent's boardwipe. Plus it was reprinted in M12.

After a little playtesting I take back what I said about it...I've decided to go with this revision

-2 Azure mage

-2 Cancel

+4 Vedalken Certarch

This version played quicker...I just really love azure mage (She looks awesome!)...and it's true about the speed thing...I surprised my opponent more often than not on turn 3. Thanks for the help and suggestions...and if I sounded kinda douschy about it I'm sorry...it's just hard switching over from R/B...I will forever be a R/B junkie...

he was probably thinking of Trinket mage when he suggested elixir.

might i also suggest the following:

-2 Wurmcoil Engine
+2 Steel Hellkite

its Tutorable boardwipe with your treasure mages, plus it flies (yay evasion!) plus if it gets in, just tap blue creatures to either wipe their board and/or pump it via pseudo-firebreathing.

Even before the adjustment this is a great deck idea jester. I myself have been running mono-black infect and have had the same frustrations. but  ive yet to find a deck plan. and net decking although not a bad thing is not the way i want go, i have yet to crack standards home brew options. but you have a great plan there. i hope you keep us up-dated on you success bro. good luck.

@ Mechanist

He said that Tower of Calamities would be good if you could search for it with Treasure Mage and that Caged Sun wasn't a good idea at all.
