Title: How to handle vampire combo.

My friend has a mono black vamp deck.  I hav e a HARD F'ing time against it.  He has a Kalastria Highborn Bloodghast and Vicera Seer out at the same time almost every game.  I usually play against him with my venser control, or eldrazi, but i never have a "answer" to that combo.  Even if i wipe the board, i take a lot of damage from the highborn, and he scrys, AND the bloodghast will be back next turn more than likely.  Any reccomendations on how to handle that situation?

Thanks

I usually just punch them in the face when they play a deck I don't like.  Never see it again.

I wouldn't suggest anyone try that though.  lol

In my experience, the best response to a vamp deck is a mono white deck with aggressive life gain. Vampire decks can easily run out of steam, and white has the best access to exiling spells, which is a good way to rid yourself of Bloodghasts. Also, pound your opponent with fliers. Other than Vampire Nighthawks, most vampire decks have little creatures with flying. That can force your opponent to waste his doomblades/Go for the throats on your little 2 cost 2/2s. Also, I might suggest cards like wall of omens, which can keep up momentum for you as well as block bloodghasts without sending them to the grave to be targets for the highborns. If nothing works though, just wait a month when half of his deck rotates out (assuming this is standard of course).

Wait till he gets all 3 out and use the following combo. As an alternate option you Counterspell them instead but since they are all cheap to cast i suggest letting him get them out.

Don't worry about not getting them all. Just build a mass removal deck and blow up the world. Since your gutting him a little every time he'll be afraid to put anything down.

I don't think he was looking for an entirely new deck. . .

I think he was looking for a modification to one of his decks.

Well honestly, Eldrazi decks aren't going to win against a well built vampire deck, they're just too slow, and often require a lot of mana to spend into a big creature that's just going to get a doom blade the second it gets out. As for Venser control, there are a lot of good Venser combos that can exile your opponents creatures, like using oblivion ring and sundial of the infinite. You would think that plently of blue counters and white exiles should stall until Venser can get his ultimate off. But i'm sure that you've tried every Venser trick in the book. That's why sometimes you just have to start from scratch and look at new deck ideas.

@Turbine - He didn't specify. He asked for a way to stop that combo and i gave him one.

@Richardrahl- If you want something to slow him down for your venser deck try adding Phyrexian Unlife. Since the highborn's effect is life loss and not "damage" it doesn't get converted to infect so you don't get the poison counters. He's can still attack you though, so you'll need to be able to handle combat somehow. But that will stop him killing you with the highborn's ability.

Ps. Nice handle, Always liked that series

Yea, you're playing White and you know the combo is really on Kalastria so save a nice Exile card for her.  The blue side has that blue counter that says counter and remove all the copies which you could bounce it back to his hand and cause quite a stir.

Get some Path of Exiles or whatever and plop it on a Panoptic Mirror and go to town.

Once you get Venser's -8 ability off you shouldn't have much problem keeping up.

Eldrazi are a tough feed against vamps because they have to start coming out fast.  Use a little deck control and cards like Polymorph to plop one into play fast and once it starts eating your opponent's permanents every turn you'll be fine.

Holy snickers batman! Phyrexian Unlife was a great suggestion (as well as the channel fireball..lol.  My eldrazi deck has a hard time handling vamps, but my main manna ramp are walls and overgrown battlement, which help, but Nighthawks rip me a new one.  He gains life, I lose life, and the only walls i have to block his Nighthawk  are wall of vine, (0/3) , and Wall of tanglecord (0/6).  Of course, IF I block, guess what!!, my crap dies and he gains life, and without my walls my mana ramp slows down.  NIghthawk is seriously the most powerful vamp on its own.  Any pearls of wisdom on what to put in my eldrazi deck (mono green) to take care of the Nighthawks?

Try this on one of ur walls that can block it.

Or you could just use this very solid card for green:

EDIT: I'm assuming that 3/3 WALKING green token you can handle. Plus since it's "Destroy permanent" that can be enchaments artifacts, land, or creatures, whatever is in ur way.

highborn doesn't have an activated ability so you can't use it againest her, you will need to use it on the seer

as for the nighthawk you can go simple and play this..

Plummet

however if your not sticking to standard I would play this

Raking Canopy

Black offers alot of ways to drop a creatures toughness such as dismember, however it has no way to deal with enchantments, not to mention 4 damage will kill most of the flying vamps.

rav514, I don't know what I'm doing!  I'm amazed I win any game!  lol

I didn't even look into the Nighthawk.  That thing annoys me so much I run Black/Red in every deck just so I can Terminate the crap out of it!  lol

You could put Aether Flash out. Just make sure your own creatures are strong enough. It should take care of many low costing vampires as well as the Bloodghasts.

Did you try Gravity Shift in your Venser Control?

Did you mean gravity sphere or maybe defy gravity?  I don't have a clue what gravity shift is, but I'm no expert on card databases.
