Title: It had to be asked (Deck building)

Welcome to another edition of it had to be asked. In this edition the question will be about deck building tactics.

What is your deck building tactic? Do you emulate the most successful builds (Spike), or are you a rogue deck builder(we'll call him WTF guy, for lack of a better term)? Do you go for whatever combo is poppin' in the format (Johnny), or are you gonna shake it up with the biggest critter you can find (Timmy)? Please note the player types are listed for those who enjoy the novelty of classification (A novelty I greatly enjoy and abuse from time to time.)

I'm personally a WTF guy/ Timmy. I wanna cast my Blight Dragon and I wanna make it work while running stuff  that should logically be played in a different deck... I.E. I was asked "Why the hell are you running Batterskull in R/B!?"

I don't really know what I am. My first good deck was Esper aggro with some stack manipulation in Thopter Foundry. Then,I build a strange aggro ally deck with a bunch of counterspells. It was Bant colored. I also have a Splinter Twin deck with Myr Galvanizer that I'm looking to switch into Splinter Exarch.

I couldn't classify myself as to what I am usually, but nothings more fun than being the WTF guy. Even if you lose, looks of shock/confusion/pure befuddlement is better than anything else. One of my favorite decks was a blue deck with no win condition other than just the opponent getting sick of playing and conceding. Though if you want to win, I always go with aggro. They don't call it Red Deck Wins because it loses.

I am all of the above. I like to play a meta deck wuth my own twist. I also like doing stuff in Magic that blows other players away.Plus I'll do what it takes to win.If it means surviving a wave of infinite tokens by triggering recursion and Fogging for ten turns straight until I draw boardwipe I'll do it. Plus I just got internet 3 or 4 months ago so up until then all of my decks have been original.

WTF JIMMY (Johnny + Timmy) ALL THE WAY!!!!

The only deck that I can really say is not an original is my Red Burn (which has a splash of Red Wins).

Other than that, I have my Boros Deck which I refer to as my sustained burn deck. Also, I have my now prized Treefolk-I'll destroy your everything deck.

I'm not anything if I'm not a What the Fudge or a Rogue deckbuilder. My first competitive deck (Turbine's definition) was a Baa! deck, or a Blue Aggro. It got me to state 3 times, and I was in love with it. Then the hellish shadow of Caw-Blade came, and thus the Dark Times began...

I am definitely a rogue builder, though I do have some combo decks. My favorite WTF deck is one based around Siren's call, Simulacrum, and Wall of Souls

haha twogun, i would LOVE to win with Battle of Wits.

I think most people on this site are wtf guys or johnny players just because it's a combo site, so it attracts that type.  I can't see a lot of spike players coming here.

personally, All of my decks are original, but I may add a combo that isn't original or build around one.  But i'm a definite Johnny.  I like to win in different ways i.e. infinite mill/damage/tokens, darksteel reactor/ helix pinnacle type wincons, or forced conceding.  for example, I have an extremely aggressive RDW that consistently wins 3rd or 4th turn, but it's not that fun to play with, so it almost never sees any play, but it's so good, i don't want to take it apart.

Me personally? I run a green/blue speed infect deck. I get a Blighted Agent out and then buff it up with an Invigorate or two. Most decks I play against don't last more than four turns. Keep in mind that by the fifth or sixth turn my deck has run out of steam and I'm guaranteed a lose.

I do like a variety of decks tho.  I get bored with just one idea, so i'm currently running 13 decks.  haha

I'd have to say I'm a Timmy. My favorite deck I made is my Alara beast deck. Godsire, Spearbreaker, and the WOOLY THOCTAR!!! Granted they are not the best cards I think they are a lot of fun.
