First, i like the break down to groups.

Secondly, I have to disagree with some of your criteria for a "combo".

If you produce 5 cards to create a effect they couldn't do on their own; That's a combo IMO. If you use 5 cards to create a wrath of god effect; It's a very poor combo, but still a combo. To me, how effective the combination of cards is should not be a factor on whether they form a combo. If they combine for an effect outside their normal purpose; they're a combo regardless of how efficient it is; IMO.

Third; EXPLAIN YOUR SELF. I just wanted to second that. A large amount of what gets posted on these boards are opinion. This post is my opinion. The previous one is darth's. It's hard to be wrong when posting an opinion. (Though not impossible) Saying " i don't like it" and nothing else just gets you ignored. Give a reason so we can have a hopefully intelligent discussion.

Could we come up with another combo category like "Back up Combos" or something?

Some place to put combo's that are not ideal but could serve a valid purpose?

Like "crap my wrath just got countered but if i play this and this i can duplicate the effect?".

Maybe "Save my @$$ combo's"?

You and I seem to have a fundamental difference what the qualifying criteria for the word "combo" and "synergy" should be. Your requirements being much more strict than mine. I have to say that whether the effect last one turn or the game should not be the determining factor IMO. Neither should whether you win the game shortly after playing it. How hard of a lock do you need before it becomes a combo? One turn lock? Five? Ten? A game? Even a one turn lock can win you a game. If you preform a one turn lock and win one game and lose the next does it qualify as combo or not? Is Lich + Repay in Kind a combo or synergy?

We will just have to see what the rest of the community thinks. You and i are just to far apart on the qualifications.

Question:  What do these have in common?

pariah and cho-manno

lord of the pit and lord of the dead

furance of rath and siege gang commander

sylavan balasik and lure

nantuko husk and gravepact

cephalid constable and angelic blessing

loyal sentry and regeneration

horseshoe crab and arcane teaching

muderous redcap and torent of souls

floursihing defenses, witherscale wurm, and fate transfer

graceful reprieve and kinsbaile borderguard

shields of velis veil and borderland behemoth

Give up?   They are all combos according to WOTC.  However here's the odd thing, not all of them are repeatable or are win-cons.  hummm why's that....oh yeat, According to WOTC a combo is an interaction of two or more cards (a combination) at the same time or sequence.  Thats it.  Nothing about repeatablity or winning.

Now whether or not it's a good combo is always open to debate, and whether or not you consider a post to be a combo is your opinion.

But according to WOTC everything that is posted here is a combo. and I don't think we need to stifle people's creativity by changing that.

I agree with gericult. plus, synergy and combos are pretty much the same thing.  they are just a positive interaction of 2 or more cards.  my opinion anyway.

Where's the post?  Granted I find your opinion of what a combo is very limiting but the rest of what you had does have a point.

Had to remove.

Someone else was talking to me the other day and made a very valid point to which I removed the post as it is not my position to set a bad example.

I'm not a moderator and I don't set rules, I'm simply a lowly poster like everyone else.

There aren't any Moderators. Feel free to post any and all of your opinion. I would quite fancy a nice debate. (Unless Sync is slinking around somewhere)
