Title: Worst Expansion?

If you started from the inception of the game you're probably not to happy with the game.  From a 1U Time Walk to a version that was 3UU, things have progressively gotten worse.  When I left Magic they were at an all time low.  There was a time when things appeared as if they would pick back up, but Magic has never been good about rewashing cards and bringing them back with new names at higher casting costs or just the same card.

As the game started they were having a tough time with making the game fair for everyone, so at first they banned and restricted cards, and then after Ice Age they started doing blocks.  So it became Type 1 (all cards), Type 2 (the current block with the base game), and then added 1.5 (a split between the two).  Because of this there was no real block for Arabian Nights, Legends, the Dark, or Fallen Empires.  This left a couple of expansions out in the cold so to speak.

Fallen Empires signified the turning point.  Fallen Empire cards started pulling back on power and the card boxes weren't numbered the same, leaving a weird little segway between all the existing expansions and it generally just left a bad taste in your mouth.  Even with Ice Age trying to introduce new cards ideas that failed (snow covered lands) to catch on, it did bring us some really good staple cards, like Zuran Orb.

What Fallen Empires did bring was Hymn to Tourach.  Which began the discard wars.  A new type of deck type specializing in discard, but Hymn was only a good part of the deck and not much else from the expansion supported it, so the idea didn't catch on until Fallen Empires had well left the city.

So what is your worst Expansion and why?

That would be M12...bastards took my lightning bolt...that's about it...I didn't mind 10th edition because I was used to shock being the norm...now it just feels pathetic...they also took my duress away from me...and my pyroclasms...Yep gotta say that M12 is the first set that has genuinely succeeded at pissing me off...and morningtide came close, but never quite succeeded...

Homelands and Alliances. One good card between both sets and that was force of will.

@TWOGUN - Thalid's from Fallen Empires couldn't beat a bunch of drunk Goblins and I've proven that on a regular basis and being a Thallid and being a Fungus are something totally different.  Breeding Pit means you pay BB for 0/1 a turn and I'd rather have that mana for something useful.  Kobolds are free!  lol

Spore Flower and Thron Tahllid. Green Burn and Repeating Fogs all the fungus support like fungal bloom and stuff mean those drunk goblins a miracle grow

lmao, I've seen a lot of people try to pull that off and fail after I Goblin Grenaded their Spore Flower.

But in reality you could be a better deck builder than them!  Maybe one day we'll be able to test that.

I'm going to go right ahead and say apocalypse. . . I hardly ever find cards in that set I can even use (except in my volver deck)

i think i understand why they took LB out of M12... it is because of incinerate... and i think incinerate entered m12 just in time to take care of regenerating creatures...

Fallen Empires was sooooooooo disappointing. I was so excited to open a pack with a Thrull Champion, then I got 4 more in the same box. And what was up with the four versions of Hymn to Tourach, Goblin Grenade, etc.? Dumb... real dumb.

None of the blocks were bad. plain and simple.

alot of thought is put into the design of them, and they can never know how it will work till it comes out.

you gotta learn to respect the work put into it.

Of course you clearly missed the question, which was what was the worst set. . .

I would LOVE to have a block war!

I would play it sealed deck style, so you get to choose the base set of the block starter and get 1 booster from each set in that block. For example you could say, Unlimited starter, Arabian Nights booster, and Legends booster.

It ends up being very fair and a lot of fun.  I forgot which game you could do this in, but I did it and it was a blast.

It would be cool to do that as a tournament.  I think you'd be amazed at how many people went with something other than Unlimited.

I would love to have a block war too, but how would you generate booster?
