Title: Cards I Miss - Juzam Djinn

Magic has been notorious about making low cost, pay later cards.  Carnophage being a good example.  Now we only get 2/2s for 1 black that dole out damage to untap them or until we can get our opponent down to 10 life.  In reality though the 50/50 turn-around just isn't worth the upkeep of a card that can be killed after it deals to us a point by a simple Shock. 

But things weren't always like this!  Back when Arabian Nights came out we got this!

Juzam Djinn

Meet Juzam Djinn.  For a measly 4 mana (Mox Jet , Swamp, and a Dark Ritual away) you could have a first turn 5/5.  Now you're thinking, what's the cost?  Oh, let me tell you!  One meager damage a turn.  I know what you're thinking!  What a deal!  Since it's damage you can stop it, but it hardly seems worth paying the Circle of Protection cost!  That's because it's just that darn good! 

Unfortunately in todays Magic there is no place for Juzam.  He is too powerful for newer stuff and not powerful enough to keep up with the old school and really it's too bad, because he is very well balanced regardless. 

At least we can still appreciate the cool art!

Well, the Djinn can come out Turn 1, can Baneslayer come out Turn one? I know, you're gonna come up with Black Lotus. Any other way?

In white, you can also path it on turn 2, after they've lost life, but before they attacked.

Pacifism is a real threat to him though.
