Horn of Greed and Life and Limb?
So when a Saproling came into play and counts as a Forest, does the Life and Limb trigger?

I would think so.
"Saprolings that are on the battlefield while Life and Limb is on the battlefield have the ability "{T}: Add {G} to your mana pool." Although they're Forests, they are not basic lands."
They are forests and count as lands.

I jumped the gun and put the combo up. I thought it would trigger.
I should've used
Doubling Season
for twice the creature drop, but just take a look at the combo and tell me what you think.

They are lands, however Horn of Greed only triggers on "Play"ing a land. Permanents can enter by any zone defined by the game, Playing a land, unless otherwise stated on a card (ie. Oracle of Mul Daya), means to put it onto the battlefield from your hand. If, as was mentioned in the combo, there are Saprolings put onto the battlefield from an effect such as Saproling Cluster or Jade Mage, they do not trigger effects that trigger on Playing a land, but do trigger effects that trigger on a land entering the battlefield. Much the same as using Hypergenesis to put Emrakul onto the battlefield doesn't trigger his ability, but would trigger Worldgorger Dragon; different in that it doesn't use the stack.
Below is the relevent rulings for Horn of Greed. Unless anyone has anything that may refute this I think this will only trigger on Playing a land.

: Playing a land will trigger it, but putting a land onto the battlefield as part of an effect will not.
What's more, upon thinking, this also won't trigger on cards such as Elvish Pioneer as he Puts it into play and doesn't allow you to Play the land, even though it came from your hand.
