Title: Retro Look - Simulacrum

If there is one card I miss from my days of early Magic it has to be Simulacrum.  The funny thing is that if any retro card screamed Phyrexia, it was Simulacrum.

Simulacrum

For one Black Mana and any color (converted B1) it allowed you to retroactively assign all your damage to a target creature you control.

It was the answer to a Channel/Fireball casts too late.  Since it was retroactive you could wait around as much as you like.  Let your opponent, like a fish, widdle away at your life total and when he finally takes the hook you reel him in.

It is also a great combo card.  Used with Phyrexian Obliterator, since Simulacrum doesn't change the source, Cho-Manno, Revolutionary, Mogg Maniac or the loads of indestructable creatures out there.  Even sending all your damage into a poor 1/1 was just good fun.

The most important thing it is an Instant.  There has to be something said about shock factor.  Even if they know it is in your deck, like a counterspell, they have to wonder if you're ready to spring on them.  Seeing a last ditch Rampage get fizzled into a creature while realizing they are left completely open to the death blow.

Simulacrum and Phyrexia were made for each other story-wise.

Gotta say you are correct on that one. Might add this one to my Glissa EDH. It would be hilarious to redirect and infinite fireball to a phyrexian crusader.
