Crap to broke - Sunburst. Use proliferation and Doubling Season.

Broke to crap - Disfigure. Now that Dismember is out you don't need it.

Broke to crap - Giant Growth. Mutagenic Growth is overall better.

Broke to crap - Fiery Hellhound. Been replaced with Immolating Souleater.

it was a rough game, you and your opponent went back and forth your both at 4 life, he has a 2/2 you have a 1/1 he has an untaped island and you have an untaped swamp.  and the card in your hand is dismember  its his turn amd he casts distortion strike, and attacks with his 3/3.  you look at the dimemember and grumble because you can't play it, your down to 1 life.  its your turn you draw your card, its mutangenic growth, yeah you, but wait it only gives you +2/+2 so its only a 3/3 and you need 4, but thats ok you spend the 3 mana to kill his 2/2 with dismember but he doesn't care cause he shocks your ass on his turn. and in defeat you curse if only I had a disfigure i could have destroyed his creature and been out of shocks range, and if I only had a giant growth I could have gotten that extra point of damage, but you didn't so your opponent won and gets the prize money, the new car, and is currently surronded by beautiful women, while you have to go home and do the 5 knuckle shuffle...wait a minute... are they a bikini team????

There is always a place for the classics, your "broke" cards might offer a small advantage early game when you can afford to pay the life, but it loses that later in the game. at which time you want more bang for your buck

I gotta say that while dismember does have a disadvantage, it's also splashable in any deck, making it far more broke thsn any other removal spell we have. (side from a 5 mana brittle effigy attack.)

I once again opt for generic permanent removal. Eat my beast within, mortals.
