Title: Theme Decks - What's yours?

As some may know, I'm big into theme decks.  I like the idea of playing a deck and having things being related.  Wizards wrote some stories around cards and playing out the scenerios just seems like a cool way to play instead of playing the best cut-throat deck all the time.

I'm not talking just a goblin deck or the like either.  Like one time I built a vampire religion deck where Krovikean vampire had Farrel's Mantle and used Holy Ground and when it played out you could see a story coming together.

I'm also always looking for new ideas that fit with the cards, the art, or the feel.  I wanted to know what kind of themes have you made and what was the story behind it?

So, are you the kind of person that makes "fan-made novels"?

I've never been the kind of person to see those connections, I make combo connections.

I know just what you mean. I play a ton of flavor-based decks. And as far as most players go is eh, who cares about the storyline? I just wanna win. That's what makes MTG fun. That's also why commander is awesome, It's like the ultimate epic tale unfolding on the battlefield.

Ooh... you could make a Russell Crowe EDH deck with your general as Barrin, Master Wizard. It could be full of sea type stuff like pirate ship and such.

It would be your(Barrin, MASTER wizard) Master and Commander deck.

I used to write a while back, but nothing for Magic.  I had thought about it as I knew a few artists, but I really wasn't driven enough to make it happen.

I've noticed that "winner" mindset and I've found that it takes a whole bunch of relaxing losses to find what works and what doesn't.  I'm only going for the throat (not associated with the card) when it comes to a tournament.  That's when it all comes together.  I can be very cut throat as well.

I've never played Commander, but it sounds interesting.  I would have to see a couple of games and then figure out what I wanted to do.  I'm guessing it's very combo heavy, but I've heard my favorite Legend is frowned upon.  lol

I saw the card drawn together and made a vintage legal pete venters deck. Also my new favorite deck is my mass effect deck lead by Nin (the totally an Asari not a Vedalken) the pain artist.

I am making my own dual decks that Wizards never thought up like Eldrazi vs. Zendikar Soldiers and Knights or Jin vs. Vorniclex. So yeah whenever I play I can always see some sort of a theme comming together.

They used to have "theme" style decks preconstructed which were tournament play, but you had those modifying cards that represented you being a certain person.  For instance Squee and Maraxus.  They called them Vanguard cards.

I played Squee.  It hurt bad on life total, but you started with 13 cards in hand

Squee

When they turned it into a club you could build decks, so I stuck with Squee and built a control deck.

They never made those dual decks, because that is the point of the entire block. . .

I wouldn't say my decks have stories in them, though I try to keep them working within the same overall theme, as in functionality

Yeah, my "Drawn Together" artist theme deck based around Chippy is close to my heart.

I actually won with it in an Unhinged/Unglued Tournament. (My FNM host's manager can get a little wacky and afford it.)
