Title: Rules Questions - Becomes versus Comes Into Play

If you have a Spawning Pool and trigger its ability to become a 1/1 that won't set-off abilitys like Soul Warden that say, "creature comes into play", correct?
I was under the impression that if a land "becomes" a creature that it is still considered in play which is why it doesn't have summoning sickness every time it gets turned into a creature unless it really was the turn it came into play versus being turned into a creature.
