What is your favorite basic effect on a card?
this would include: burn, counterspells, lifeloss/gain, extra turns, extra combat phases, creature pumping, making creatures smaller (like -1/-1 for example), exile, creature kill, discard, making spells cost less, making spells cost more, mill, bringing stuff back from the grave, card draw, bringing lands from your library to play, gaining control of things.

out of those basic effects (if i missed any, tell me)

what is YOUR favorite?

mine personally, is making stuff cost less :)

Again and again I find myself loving card draw *sigh* other than that though I would have to say Gustcloak:

"Whenever <name of card> becomes blocked, you may untap Gustcloak Cavalier and remove it from combat."

Mixed cards will always be the thing.  Everytime I think of my favorite card I think Undermine.  Counter Spell and lose 3 life.  Anything that does what everything else does for the same cost?  How can I go wrong!

Black Control has become my deck of choice with discard/counter, but in the long run drawing cards is what gets you from point A to point B faster, such as Dream Fracture and Sign in Blood.  I'm so dreaming of a combo for Sign in Blood that will deck or kill the opponent and can also be used to draw the card that demises your opponent and the cost is right on point.

I have to say, I hate cards that make you pay too much for an effect that you could do for less.  I ask myself, why did they make that card?  If I'm crossing the street I don't need a Leer Jet to do it!

Pick the path of least resistance and you'll always get there faster than anyone else.

favorite card effects are extortion/punisher effects, such as browbeat or temporal extortion, I love making my opponent choose which is the lesser of two evils

I'm with Gercault. My personal fav being Book Burning. I imprint it onto my panoptic mirror everytime I play my burn deck. However I am becoming more and more a fan of Mill... all thanks to my landfall deck when I discovered Hedron Crab... :D LOL!!

Searching. Every turn, multiple times a turn. Controlling my next move is becoming Fate itself, and using the hands of the gods to bitchslap my opponent. Thinning the deck also allows me to draw important cards more quickly as well. tAnnoying them by making them shuffle me all the time, is also hilariously sadistic. Grab the reins of Destiny and pull them along through time~

The reason book burning sucks is that the mill option is almost always better

Six damage or six cards is really cheap for either effect. To me, either way it would suck.
