Title: Mono Black Control

This is the Mono-Black Control deck I'm gonna start running this upcoming Friday at FNM.

Lands : 20
20 Swamp


Sideboard:

4 Vampire Hexmage
4 Assassinate
2 Despise
2 Duress

What do you think? Don't forget this deck is kinda of on a budget and I don't have much more money.


Also: When Standard rotates, what should go in for the cards that will rotate out?

You have a lot of removal spells, which I think works for this deck. Standard mono black removal spells I might add are geth's verdict and flesh allergy. Both remove your opponents creatures while draining away their life. If I had to add a creature, I would consider adding Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet. It has both a removal ability and the added bonus of acquiring control of your opponents' creatures, which might be necessary since this deck isn't that creature heavy.

Right now to me, It seems like I get an over abundance of Removal Spells. But I will see.

Also with Bloodchief, I don't want to waste my money since he is due to rotate out this fall.

i think i would run 3 go for the throats 3 doom blades and 2 grasp of darkness and up to 24 swamps

yeah... the deck needs more lands. All control decks need to establish more mana than their opponent. Also, I would add in Sign in Blood as the deck seems to lack draw (which is also a key to winning with a control deck)

I don't know about the lands because I always seem to have the right amount of mana or just too much.

I alao keep that many removal spells since it lacks creatures.

I think the land count is alright especially since other then 5 cards all of the others are 3 or less mana, and frankly I think you should lose 2 of those.  Sheoldred is so high priced cost wise I would lose her and add in 2 more obliterator, actually you should have 4 of those, maybe lose the grim presence since its kind of a waste without her.  With the other 2 slots  and losing gitaxian probe I would put in 4 signs in blood, you will beable to see your opponents hand with the despise and despress and will still get 2 cards for essentially the 1 mana more.  I understand why tumble is in their, however, I think you will be better served with elimiating the threats before they become threats rather then tapping.  Mire's toll is great in a mono black deck by the time you can play tumble you can remove 3 cards from your opponents hand for 1 mana that is a huge advantage, your removel can take care of the rest

Well, I am on a budget so 2 more Obliterators are very pricey. I've been considering Sign in Blood for the extra card advantage for the dame life, yet I use the Gitxian Probe in Unison with Despise and Duress so I don't waster them.

As for tumble magnets, sometimes there are threats I can't deal with. With Pro-Black or my Hand-hate cards haven't arrived or are already used.
