The last couple of expansions I've noticed it.  I'm tired of the "you can't die" cards honestly.

Invincible Hymn costs 8 mana. And can be countered. . .

I think we're done here.

Well, that is an instant win and worth making the chance of wasting your turn for.

well that ruins three of my decks.   they really didn't just put the balance change on it, "instead of winning the game, a player of your choice losses the game"?(not targeting)

That's how our group started doing it after I won six games in a row in star.

Serra Ascendant is really overpowered in EDH. It can come out as a 6/6 flyer with lifelink on the first turn. Sure it returns to a 1/1 if your life drops below thirty, but if you can get it out on the first few turns, your life should be able to skyrocket before they can do anything. Throw in Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant and damage is prevented to all your creatures on the third turn if you make that your general. I'd post links to pictures of the cards but I'm new here and not exactly sure how to do it.

Coalition Victory is banned in Commander.

Depends where you play.   differant places have different rules based on the meta, especially since there is no "formal" banned list.  for example where I play the only cards banned are Rofellos and Sharzazad.

Lin-I like that change your group made, something worth considering

Wizards has recognized the Commander (formally EDH) website as the "OFFICIAL" rules.

See: http://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/article.aspx?x=magic/rules/100cardsingleton-commander

,which links to this website I previously posted above.

Im not arguing that the commander website has been recognized as the official offline rules.  I'm saying that there is not an offical offline banned list.

If you look at the link you posted you will notice that nowhere on there does it say "this is the current banned list".  Instead you find phrases such as "a recommended banned list" and "If you want to enjoy the type of games you've heard associated with EDH, avoid cards like these"

So if the official rules are only recommending what cards should not be played, how can you have an official banned list?

To all,

Granted that the current Banned list on the Wizards website is for online play and the Banned list on the the EDH/Commander website is for offline play. However, I foresee that once the Commander decks are released Wizards (and the EDH/Commander guys) will make the list "official" with possibly some minor tweaking. So therefore I would recommend following the rules and guidelines on the EDH/Commander website. These guys are the originators of EDH and know what they're talking about (Wizards has already stated they will not be taking over the format).

Of course you guys are free to play it with whatever cards you want and decide what decks and cards are way "over to the top". Your play group will soon see what cards/decks are aberrant.

In my play group that player is usually the first to be destroyed by everybody else and that person usually ends up building another deck that's more sportsmanlike. Winning by any means over and over again gets boring real quick.

I have to disagree with you. Ehd was created as a social game, the creation of house rules isnot only part of the game but encourged by the rules. A banned list needed to be created for online because it lacks the social interaction need to make things fair. But to put a list out for offline play will ruin the spirit of edh
