I've seen alot of REALLY good one drops before...
My favorites being...

Scute mob,
Goblin guide,
Joraga warcaller,
Guul draz assasin,
dragon master outcast,
bloodhall ooze,
and figure of destiny.

With my opinion on the best one...
probably being (as much as i would like to say dragon master outcast...), scute mob.

What do you think is the best one-drop ever people?

Thats a tough call, assuming you are refering to creatures, there are alot of solid 1 drops, though some of them like dreadnought or scute mob aren't very effective coming out turn 1, while others like savanah lions you don;t want to draw mid-late game, when you are dealling with 8/8's.  So by that the best 1 drops would be effective, on their own, in all stages of the game

My choice for top 1 drop is ....

Student of Warfare

Honerable mentions include

Student of warfare, figure of destiny-the ability to grow as the game progesses keeps them being a constant threat.  Personal I prefer the student, however you can't argue with the instant speed growth of the figure

The Wardens and soul's attendant-life gain is always good at any stage

Oh and of Course the Birds is right there on any top 1 drop list.

Birds of Paradise

How about the best 1-drop that isn't rare?

Since arcbound creatures are very close to my heart, I'd say Arcbound Worker. Chump block, pump a creature permanently, and is colorless. What else do you want from a common?

For a common I would have to go with Elvish Pioneer. G, When it comes into play you may put a basic land into play tapped from your hand.

Mother of Runes

Noble Hierach

Lightning Elemental

Best one drop for me:

1. Birds of Paradise
2. Llanowar Elves
3. Quirion Ranger
4. Sensei's Divining Top

5. Sakura Tribe-Scout

6. Orochi Leafcaller

7. Isamaru, Hound of Konda
8. Goblin Guide
9. Mortician Beetle
10. Soul Sisters (Soul Warden, Soul Attendant)

Honorable mentions - Festering Goblin, Raging Goblin, any sacrifice deal 1 damage creatures...

Ezuri's archers!
at 1 mana and a common,
that is INSANE for a 1/2 creature with reach that gets +3/+0 when blocking a flying creature!
Thats a 1 drop that can handle a vampire nighthawk! (as everyone should know, is a PAIN to deal with...)

I like the concept of the Heralds from Shards. They're pretty neat.

not a permanent, so it probably doesn't count, but giant growth (and brute force)

as for permanent, student of warfare

you can drop it on turn 1. Therefore, it's a 1-drop.
