Title: **ADVICE PLEASE**: MTG versus MTGO

A couple of friends (who are now former co-workers) introduced to to MTG last June. As a former D&D player, I was fascinated with the game & I am now HOOKED for good! I ended up making a couple of paper decks & played with their group twice a week for a couple months. Then I discovered MTGO! WOW!! How neat is it to play against people from all over the planet at any time you like!
The thing is, my paper card buddies HATE mtgo. They have huge & impressive paper card collections dating back to the Alpha/Beta days. They feel it is a total waste of $$$ in investing in worthless "virtual" cards. But of course, I disagree. Online cards are generally cheaper. And besides, I feel I have become a better player learning from a wide variety of playstyles I see online. I have already spent nearly $500 in mtgo. I am NOT a wealthy man. I CANNOT spent bucks on both paper AND VIRTUAL cards. I'm kind of at a crossroads. Do I go back to paper mtg? Or stick with building my collection of mtgo? My buddies don't even invite me to their homes for games anymore. Nonetheless, I'm leaning in favor of NOT buying anymore paper cards.
So then, I was just curious as to how many of you on here are MTG & MTGO players, and which format do you guys (& gals) prefer? Also, for you mtgo players, feel free to add me as a buddy. My online name is the same as my username for this site!
Thanks
:-)

I almost always play paper, BUT I love MTGO.
I totally agree that it's awesome to be able to play against so many different people, and all of the rules are handled for you automatically. I'd say I spend 75% of my time playing paper, and 25% on MTGO.
I've also dealt with the dilemma of "should I really spend money on virtual/fake cards"? It feels much more impressive to hold a valuable rare in your hand than to look at it on your monitor, you know?
Anyway, it's great to be able to play with your friends in real life, but if you get more of a kick from MTGO, I'd say stick with that. Your friends also shouldn't be jerks and exclude you from the game just because they have more/better cards than you!

stick with the real, not the illusional.
i doubt it would happen, but if wizards folds up MTG, then there goes MTGO with it, unless they sell it to microsoft, or google, or some other large, internet based company.
If they do fold, i pray it not go to microsoft, cause' i know how bad they f' up already.
