Variety format: each player must use at least one non-basic land card form each set, (an interesting constraint, though it gets harder the more sets are released)

Hydra duels: two players do a one verse one. Anytime a player dies two more players come in with half the origanals life rounded down (takes a lot of people)

Are there any other rules to the overlord variant? Because this could be nasty way to abuse a w/b deck featuring both tutors and a beacon of immortality with a serra avatar swinging in as a win condition.

As with all unique player formats, certain cards and combos have to be restricted or banned

Yeah I just got through talking with my play group about it. They immediately banned channel, beacon of immortality and limited demonic tutor and serra avatar to one. so much for format abuse...(*sighs*)

Ah sorry test of endurance the fieldar soveigron celesestial mantle and channel are all banned. I know more have been banned I'll get back on tht. We allow Serra Avatar, usually whoever plays black keeps a terror on hand or blue has a counter spell.

Honestly the Overlord variant is a lot like playing archenemy but without the annoyance of schemes. (Honestly some just seem kind of cliche, I.E. My undead horde awakens.) I guess it's just a matter of flavor vs. actual gameplay.

Quick question regarding overlord, do you bump the number of poision counters required to win against the overlord up to half the overlord's life total or does the 10 poision rule still apply?

Multiplayer Assassin is fun. Each player secretly and randomly receives a target player (not yourself). Redo the selection process until everyone gets a legal target (meaning not yourself). Then you play free for all and the first person to kill his target wins. You must kill your target... if someone else kills your target, then that killer is your new target.

We also play a blind version where you don't look to see who your target is until you kill a player. You then look (not reveal) to see if that person you killed was the target. If the player you killed was indeed your target, then you proclaim as such and you win the game. If that player was not your target, you proclaim that he was not your target, but now you know who your target is. Of course, all other players now know you have the advantage and this puts a bullseye on your chest.

Both are lots of fun, full of strategy and diplomacy.
