What would you say to having 2 woodland changelings ( or two of any changelings in play for that matter) and Alpha Status attached to one if not both. There are approximately 219 creature types in magic the gathering as listed under comprehensive rules:

Rule 204.3k

Creatures and tribals share their lists of subtypes; these subtypes are called creature types. The creature types are Advisor, Ally, Angel, Anteater, Antelope, Ape, Archer, Archon, Artificer, Assassin, Assembly-Worker, Atog, Aurochs, Avatar, Badger, Barbarian, Basilisk, Bat, Bear, Beast, Beeble, Berserker, Bird, Blinkmoth, Boar, Bringer, Brushwagg, Camarid, Camel, Caribou, Carrier, Cat, Centaur, Cephalid, Chimera, Citizen, Cleric, Cockatrice, Construct, Coward, Crab, Crocodile, Cyclops, Dauthi, Demon, Deserter, Devil, Djinn, Dragon, Drake, Dreadnought, Drone, Druid, Dryad, Dwarf, Efreet, Egg, Elder, Elemental, Elephant, Elf, Elk, Eye, Faerie, Ferret, Fish, Flagbearer, Fox, Frog, Fungus, Gargoyle, Giant, Gnome, Goat, Goblin, Golem, Gorgon, Graveborn, Griffin, Hag, Harpy, Hellion, Hippo, Homarid, Homunculus, Horror, Horse, Hound, Human, Hydra, Hyena, Illusion, Imp, Incarnation, Insect, Jellyfish, Juggernaut, Kavu, Kirin, Kithkin, Knight, Kobold, Kor, Kraken, Lammasu, Leech, Leviathan, Lhurgoyf, Licid, Lizard, Manticore, Masticore, Mercenary, Merfolk, Metathran, Minion, Minotaur, Monger, Mongoose, Monk, Moonfolk, Mutant, Myr, Mystic, Nautilus, Nephilim, Nightmare, Nightstalker, Ninja, Noggle, Nomad, Octopus, Ogre, Ooze, Orb, Orc, Orgg, Ouphe, Ox, Oyster, Pegasus, Pentavite, Pest, Phelddagrif, Phoenix, Pincher, Pirate, Plant, Prism, Rabbit, Rat, Rebel, Reflection, Rhino, Rigger, Rogue, Salamander, Samurai, Sand, Saproling, Satyr, Scarecrow, Scorpion, Scout, Serf, Serpent, Shade, Shaman, Shapeshifter, Sheep, Siren, Skeleton, Slith, Sliver, Slug, Snake, Soldier, Soltari, Spawn, Specter, Spellshaper, Sphinx, Spider, Spike, Spirit, Splinter, Sponge, Squid, Squirrel, Starfish, Surrakar, Survivor, Tetravite, Thalakos, Thopter, Thrull, Treefolk, Triskelavite, Troll, Turtle, Unicorn, Vampire, Vedalken, Viashino, Volver, Wall, Warrior, Weird, Whale, Wizard, Wolf, Wolverine, Wombat, Worm, Wraith, Wurm, Yeti, Zombie, and Zubera.

That would be roughly +438/+438 to each changeling with Alpha Status attached. Add in horned sliver to give your changelings trample and another +2/+2 and and crypt sliver for tap, regenerate and another +2/+2 while  watch your opponent loose all color in their face. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Unfortunately however this is not and never will be so.  Read the following:

Alpha Status
2 Mana Green Mana
Enchant Creature
Enchanted creature gets +2/+2 for each other creature in play that shares a creature type with it.

  • Alpha Status counts the number of creatures that share a type with the enchanted creature, not the number of types that those creatures share with it.
And so i sit at my computer crying like a baby over a combo that will never come into this world. Why oh Why Wizards do you TAUNT me so like a GOD FORESAKEN ELF. Hours from now i will get up and "Possibly" realize that my Breathe has a very Venomous......"Damb ELF".

Was your original thought that Alpha Status on a Changeling would give it a bonus for EVERY creature type, regardless if that creature type was in play or not?  Alpha Status on a Changeling still seems like a pretty effective combination.

With two changelings in play....sadly yes. Had to educate myself on the cards i was wanting to use. Reality is really harsh.

10/4/2004 If a creature has more than one creature type, and one of those types matches the creature you are calculating for, then count that creature. Only one type needs to match in order to get counted.
10/4/2004 If you have a creature with more than one creature type, count all creatures which have either creature type.
10/1/2009 Sharing multiple creature types doesn't give an additional bonus. Coat of Arms counts creatures, not creature types.
 Same as Alpha Status unfortunatly

But don't write off Alpha Status as it is still a cracking card. Against opponents with multiple creature types, a Zoo deck for instance, you get +2/+2 for all creature types in play so can make you pretty formidable. I used to use it in one of my first ever decks of Changeling/Aurochs and made for all kinds of fun.

In competition, I would sideboard it and see what you are up against because if you are up against a mono type deck, say Slivers, then you only get +2/+2 and there are better cards you could have in there.

Just my opinion
