am i able to have two legends as long there not the same right does that work with planeswalkers?

You can have any number of legends on the field at once, however, the legend rule states you can not have two legends with the same name on the field at the same time.  It's all about the name so even though 2 cards might show the same character they can both be on the field as long as the names are different.  Case in point, Rhys the exiled and Rhys the redeemed can be on the field together

Planeswalkers on the other hand have whats known as the planeswalker uniqueness rule, their condition is that the type lines can not be the same.  So while Jace Beleran and Jace, the Mind Scupter have differant names they both have the type line "Planeswalker-Jace" so they can not be on the field together.

you could always play that card that makes the legend rule not apply? :P

Not with Planeswalkers though. And it's called Mirror Gallery.
