I've noticed, and I'm pretty sure that every modern magic set is based around some kind of war.

I have a challenge, come up with a magic set story that doesn't include war.

I assume he is interchanging set and block. 

My question is what is being defined by war.  Like psyche said is it just the aspects of conflict or are we defining it as a typicial war, ie armies fighting.  Since the latter is the most common usage, I assume that is which you are refering to, in which case not as many modern magic blocks are based on (IE the war was the driving force in the story) as you think

Scars-yes based on a war

Zendikar-a war of surival was the byproduct of the eldrazi release, but not what the block was based on

Shards-this is iffy-it was based on bolas return to power, but he prepared for war to help fuel it

shadowmoor/lorwyn-no war in this one

time spiral-small wars of survial but not what block was based on

ravinca-war was a result of the breaking of the guildpact, but not what block was based on

kamigawa-based on the kami war

mirroden-not based on war

onslaught/odessy- war resulted from main characters actions, not based on it

invasion/masque- gathering the weapon to win a war, so yes based on.

Including shards 5 of the last 12 blocks were based on war.  so if we were to accept this challenge we need a defination of what is ment by "war" such as the presence of conflict (since that is a must) however, lacking of massive armys, such as mirroden, shadowmoor, time spiral

The set is based around a main conflict.

It's very hard not to do this because that's what fueld the game.

Alright! This should be fun, I think that if everybody on the site were to make one Magic set and not a block we should be able to make a large sized set. First of all, we need a storyline for the set. I think that we should start a new thread for everyone to post their ideas on the storyline.
