Title: Does this combo work?

Okay, so say you have Precursor Golem, and you put Arc Trail out targeting a Golem with the one damage, and the opponent with the 2 damage. Would the 2 damage be copied for each golem? I figured it would, since It tells you to copy the spell for each golem in play. Just wondering.

I think it will... i think it also work with spells that distribute damage...

Afraid not. Precursor Golem reads:

'Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery spell that targets only a single Golem, that player copies that spell for each other Golem that spell could target. Each copy targets a different one of those Golems.'

Arc trail reads:

'Arc Trail deals 2 damage to target creature or player and 1 damage to another target creature or player.'

Arc Trail has two targets, so cannot trigger Precursor Golem's effect.

I will admit there is a little ambiguity in the 'targets only a single Golem' bit which some players have taken to mean the spell will be copied if, say, the spell being cast targets one Golem and a player - but it means that 'a golem is the only target'.

Compare Arc Trail to First Volley, which reads:

'First Volley deals 1 damage to target creature and 1 damage to that creature's controller.'

This only has one target, so if you target a Golem it will be copied.

You could actually distribute the damage so that you kill two golems and have one left with two damage on it.

Um, Hungry, did you even read my post? You don't get to kill any golems, the most you'll do is 2 damage to one and 1 to another...

No, sorry, I did not think that it worked that way.

i think Hungry is saying that as long as targets are all golems, it should work...

Though this would be wrong as well.

Precursor Golem's trigger only works if the spell has a single target, AND that target is a Golem.
