These days, mill has been destroyed. With the Eldrazi, it is impossible to win. Last FNM, I was playing and cast a Halimar Excavator, saying "Mill 3" My opponent had never heard of mill and I had to explain it to him.

mill is alive and well, actually
eldrazi no longer stop mill, even in standard
1) Leyline of the Void
2) Nihil Spellbomb
3) Ravenous Trap (best anti-eldrazi recovery card)
4) Suffer the Past (in response to Eldrazi Trigger)

and in legacy you have even more, like Tormod's Crypt, or Relic of Progenitus.

I haven't seen a mill deck in an FNM since ROE came out.

I agree with jmd.  It's still around and hasbeen for a long time, as sets come and go decks gain and lose strength.  In lorwyn faries ruled, they started losing steam in eventide, at the same time Rdw, which was virtually nonexistent in lorwyn and even parts of ts,started making its comeback, In early shards esper ruled, thoough uw control sucked, rdw held its own until reborn, which brought maelstrom pulse and such followed quickly by m10(or was it X) RDW was absorbed into jund.  At this time mill was picking up and then given a huge boost by zendikar (crab and archieve),  Jund still held on, though esper was gone, UW control still sucked, though white weenie was picking up as well with the kor.  In worldwake  UW control started to get its life back (If I recall its been in the dumps since ravinca) with teh arrival of jace. but not alot of mill support in worldwake or in ROI, and with the eldrazi people were playing more polymorpth and summoning trap decks, and since there was not alot of instant speed graveyard hate mill lost alot of steam, m11 and scars didn;t do alot to support mill though they did do alot for UW control and RDW.  So mill moved back to the back burner while those to came front, but its still around and will be back in force once it gets better support. but its far from dead

Also your opponent might not be familiar with the term mill, I have heard some people use the term deck, as in " deck 3 cards" "I won by decking him"
