Why does U stand for blue? Why not P or H or Z even?

Because if it stood for anything else it would be awkward. Imagine Saying WIBRG or WEBRG or WABRG, it would sound ridiculous, but WUBRG's lovable it's got a ring to it, but that's not the actual reason. I can't remember all the details, but somehow black ended up with B and blue ended up with U because of the second letter in it's spelling due to design reasons or something like that.

gericault is right U sounds like blue and since B is already taken by black then it is the best letter to represent the color blue...

Of course no mention to why it couldn't have been {A} for black and {B} for blue

Maybe black cards were created before blue cards. Or, B standing for black and U standing for blue is how the creators wanted it.

It's because when you list the colors alphabetically, black comes first.
