if you gain controller of target permanent, do you gain control of the equipment on the permanent or just the permanent?

Just the permanent... any other permanent attached to it will still be on your opponent's control...

That's not true. If I have a creature with an enchantment and you take control, you get the enchant as well because it is part of the creature.

The only place this gets a little weird is when you take a creature that has an equipment. If I had a creature with an equipment and you took control over it, my next turn, I could pay the "equip" cost of the equipment and put it onto my own creature.

Enchant creatures become part of the creature. Equipments are separate.

@generic- yes it is true, permanents can not change controllers unless an effect tells them to so if player A has a glory seeker enchanted with holy strength, then player B plays act of treason on the glory seeker, player B will control the glory seeker however player A will control the Aura, so player B can not use their simic guildmage to move the aura since they don;t control it

However, if the enchanted permanent gains a bonus or ability from the aura (such as with holy strength or fire whip) then Player B can use those abilitys, since they are part of the permanant-these auras contain the words- gets, gains, or has

If the text lacks those words and the ability only exists on the aura(such as freed from the real or arcanum wings) then player B can not use those abilitys since they do not control the aura, even if the aura is attached to a creature player B controls

Changing control of a permanent does not also change control of any permanent attached to it, e.g. Auras or Equipment (or Fortifications).

Some Auras and Equipment specifically give abilities to the creature they are attached to. e.g. 'Enchanted Creature gains '(T): This deals 1 damage to target creature or player' - these continue to work as normal.

Other abilities, such as Freed from the Real, are abilities of the Enchantment and the controller of the enchantment can play them.

---

Geri, your example about Simic Guildmage is wrong - the guildmage does not care about the controller of the Auras it is trying to move, it only cares about the controller of the permanent it's attached to and the one it's being moved to.

e.g. if you gain control of an opponent's creature with a Holy Strength attached to it, you can use Simic Guildmage to move Holy Strength to another of your creatures.

Alternately, if your opponent gains control of one of your creatures via an Aura, you can move the Aura onto one of their other creatures to get your creature back :)

Zark I stand corrected about the guildmage for some reason I was thinking the aura and tgargets controller had to be the same
