Title: Old cards with new names

MTG has been around forever, it seems, so it's only a matter of time before people creating the regularly released new sets run out of ideas.  I've been around since Revised/3rd was the only thing you could buy in stores, so back then, everything was new/fun/exciting.  Now, each new set that comes out seems somewhat lackluster - at least to me.

Seeing cards in new sets that have the exact same ability as a card that has already been released is rather "blah" to me.  Yeah, maybe they need to bring that ability into the set to even out the powers of the colors, but I dunno.  I guess owning multiple cards, that all do the exact same thing, isn't all that exciting.

Anyone else notice this trend?

yeah, especially in recent sets.  It actually doesn't bother me that much if the change fits the current set or its in another color to help balance them out.  or if it puts more money in the pocket, after all I Wizards is a business so i can understand some of the dscussions they make, such as not including wrath and then coming out with Day of judgement-at least there was a small change to the card

My issue comes when they release a card based on a previous card and the only change is the name: example civic wayfinder/borderland ranger-ability, cmc, p/t everything is the same-only difference is type and I can't play my playset of wayfinders in standard

Llanowar elves and Fyndhorn elves... Although Llanowar elves is now Elf druid... But in the past Llanowar Elves and Fyndhorn Elves have the same creature type...

But there are also cards that Wizards made stronger... And there are cards that Wizards made weaker... For example Old Elves Versus New Elves...

Priest of titania Vs Elvish Archdruid
Timberwatch Elf Vs Immaculate Magistrate
Birchlore ranger Vs Heritage Druid

ETC

But I would love to see a Caller of the Claw-like ability.. I don't care if it's an instant or a creature...

If We have Caller of the claw again, Players will think twice before casting any creature mass removal.
