hey going to a legacy tournement next month. Need another set of eyes to find any holes in my deck. the top prize is a mox jet so you can only guess how much effort i am puting towards this. I will be bringing my boros deck since it has a good stanging in the top 8.

How competitive is this tournament? It doesn't seem like you are fast enough to beat many of the major legacy archetypes, especially combo decks like ANT. Maybe there's something I'm missing about your deck, but how fast can you kill?

Edit: Also, if you have MWS I'd be glad to playtest with you, if you want to get some practice. I have a good chuck of the legacy metagame built.

My deck at its fastest does a 4th to a 5th turn kill.

I do not have MWS unfortunately.

There is only one legacy archtype that i have come across (against the few main that i have) that it has trouble with and that is reanimator into a  Iona, shield of emeria turn 1 lockdown. My deck is mainly white in color reason being. Thats why I place in the Tormond's Crypt into sideboard.

One person suggested that i take out the two wrath of god in the sideboard and put in its place oblivion ring to take care of progentus and emrakul.

Do some research on legacy zoo. It can definatly beat you faster, and more consistently. Also, take a look at some of the one turn win combo decks, such as ANT and the Spanish Inquisition, which will beat you as well. If you're playing against a tier one metagame, I think you might have some trouble.

Looking at the two decks you have shown. the ANT I would have trouble most likely (give it 50/50), but the Spanish Inquisitor I would leave beaten and bruised beyond belief.

I like the Spitemare with Scourge of the Nobilis. The deck looks great, but I haven't seen many real tournaments.

Well, I guess I can try to help out with the list. For one, it really pains me to see green not run here, because it really shuts off a lot of good options, like Kird Ape.
Lightning Helix: One of the best RW cards out there, a 6 life swing is pretty big.
Grim Lavamancer: Popular in legacy. He speeds you up even more.
Path to Exile/ Swords to Plowshares: You have no spot removal at all aside from bolt. You should be able to get your hands on some Paths, removal is very important.
Sideboard:
Vexing Shusher: Helps against counterspells.
Ethersworn Canonist: Combo destroys you, this helps. Even with it though, you still have a pretty bad matchup.
Kataki, War's Wage: Side in against stax.
Price of Progress: Burn, nuff said. Especially good against 43 variants.
Cards I would take out:
Scourge of the Nobilis: Subpar aura, decks that it does anything against will just 2 for 1 you with removal
Skyknight Legionaire: It really just isn't very good.
Anyways, without green, this is tough. Good Luck at your tournament.
PS. Get MWS :)

Ok made some changes. Unfortunately I have gone from Firey Boros to a Power House Dega (R/W/B). Posted up the changes on the link above if anyone wants to look.

Again I am looking for any suggestions.

Also, how can i gain the MWS?

That's easy to install...

Download and install program:

mws094f.exe (the latest version)

Download and install the card database (up to M11, hopefully)
mtg_gamepack.exe

If you want pictures on your card, download this filename:
mtgfullpicssetup.exe (images up to eventide)

yes i would also like to play you ghostfire. more opponents from the site is always good. atm its primarily me, shakii, and scotty only.

you may also want to look into  Stax/White Stax.  ive played with that deck for a few years, and its pretty sick.

it beats ALOT of the decks out there.

Basically it looks like you need to keep an eye out for:

Fish (Vedalken shackles and FoW could prove pretty bad for you)
Countertop (pretty annoying when followed with Tarmogoyf beatdown)
Bant Survival (in the hands of a good player, turn 2 Iona in G/W/U is kinda sick lol)
Zoo (fast paced)
Belcher (turn 1-2 kill)
ANT (turn 2-3 kill)
(possibly) Stax.  (fast lockdown, slow progression.  with Chalice of the void, trinispheres and alot of fast mana, it usually puts in a few Lodestone golems right after casting All is Dust.)

Ty, will be downloading MWS soon.

Made some changes.

Ok, made some changes to the main and sideboard. I understand what it was you were pointing out with the suggestions of cards to add in.

I still feel better keeping WOG in mainboard. In order to deal with lockdowns I grabed 3 of my vindicates. I removed the 3 scourge of the nobolis for this.

Also, in reference to grave, grave recursion, and counters I think extirpate would be a very good multi functional card. I have 2 in mainboard and 1 on side. Switched volcanic fallout from mainboard and 1 pithing needle for this. I never really used pithing needle.

Changed out the 2 bull cerodons for 2 baneslayer angels. Keeps with the first strike and lifelink mech. that i want in the deck. Also, it is faster to play than the Bull. I decided to do this since I took out scourge of the nobilis which helped the Bull.

I also, changed up the sideboard by taking out the 2 WOG and 1 pithing needle and replaced with 3 oblivion ring. This can be switched out with vindicate when i see progentus or emrakul.

At this point would anyone think that changing out banefire for isochron scepter. This way I can then make futher use of extirpate, red elemental blast, and lightning bolt.

I use to run the hearthfire hobgoblin in this deck. I stoped unsing him when i got ahold of spitemare. The hobgoblin is a great card but spitemare adds another dimension against your opponent. Now he not only has to worry that if i attack which would be better to block with a big creature for a kill or a small creature to not take damage. Also he has to worry about attacking with the biggest creature if spitemare can block it. If i was to change it out with anything i would do so with flametongue kavu.

You forgot to mention to him that there are two programs (Magic Workstation and MWS Play) you'll build your deck using Magic Workstation. Then run MWS Play and connect using that program... it's that easy...

Shakii, you don't need to use MWSplay to connect. Just hit Ctrl+I in the main screen of MWS.
Also, Ghostfire, I think you made some good changes. Tell me when you have MWS set up and can play, so we can do a few practice games.

Ok made the last of my changes before i start to test this new version out. I think by adding in the black it should control better. Between vindicate and extirpate being pushed in it should do fine. I will play test it on MWS later today. If you would like to see the current status of the deck check out the link is:

http://www.essentialmagic.com//Decks/View.asp?ID=758761

I think that you all would like seeing this version. It is by far more lethal in ability to control and conquer than before.  Not so sure if it is faster or slower than before though. Comments or ideas welcomed.

This looks much better. Do you know anything about the metagame you will be playing in? It would certainly help you build your sideboard, and I would know what decks to play you with.

Edit: Victory! I finally found a deck I remembered from a while ago, called Dark Boros. The concept is similar to yours, and gives us a list to look at. Here is one of the lists:
Creatures:
4 Dark Confidant
4 Grim Lavamancer
2 Isamaru, Hound of Konda
4 Tidehollow Sculler
4 Figure of Destiny
2 Jotun Grunt

Spells:
4 Lightning Helix
4 Lightning Bolt
2 Duress
4 Thoughtseize
3 Terminate
3 Vindicate

I thought about tidehollow sculler and thought seize but decided against at least thoughtseize. Tidehollow sculler i am still thinking about using in place of knight of the white orchid.

As far as the meta goes I know a little of what to expect. Reanimator, Mill, Big Red Wins, Goblin Rush (Possibly),  Blue/White Control (Orims chant/Isochron Scepter Lockdown with man land kill), and Blue (Man Land Kill) Control.

Both the Blue/White and  Blue control that will be there i know is a tier 1 deck. You will be shut down fast. Thats why I use so much blue hate.

Considering the lack of combo in your meta, not running Thoughtsieze seems right. Testing will help figure things out though.

Its funny you mention the problem with the mentor of it taking to long.  i was thinking the same thing you need to pay 6 mana into it to get it decent, it would be one thing if you could pump at the end of turn like FOD, but since its only sorcery speed there are much better options in your deck.  maybe bring the swiftblade back you can use a solid 2 drop

I'm actually suprised you you dont have any disenchents in sideboard

Agreed, far too slow for legacy. Swiftblade is pretty bad too though, I would run a few Bobs if you've got them.

Did a little research on Dark Boros. I can switch out the transcendet master and place in Plated Geopede. Quick play that beefs with the help of land and fetch lands with first strike capabilities.

Also instead of running the 2 badlands and 2 ghitu encampment how about 4 lavaclaw reaches?

Umezawa's Jitte would be a nice add on as well. I have noticed that it is a 50/50 split between it and basalisk collar being ran depending on construct. For my use either would be fine, First strike adds a lot of potential to go with either. I however am more partial to basilisk collar due to slightly faster by only 1 on the mana curve. I will however try to get a hold of at least one Jitte to place in my deck.

Also it was mentioned that i have not set in anything to deal with enchantments. That is completely wrong. I f you look I have placed in Vindicate which deals with everything on field and O rings in side board depending on needs (aka Progentus).

Yeah, Jitte is good. Bob is the nickname for Dark Confidant. He's a powerful draw engine if you plan on winning fast with low CMC cards. I would keep the badlands, but take out the encampments for 2 reaches. You don't want to run too many CIPT lands. Also, what time exactly can you play MWS? Just so I can plan around it

yeah for some reason I was looking at the name vindicate but thinking mortify's text.

Personally I think Jitte would would work better for you then the collar due to its flexibility, for example if I have it equiped to my unblocked white orchard I rather deal the extra 2 damage then gain the 2 life, especially since i can gain 4 life atherwards. same thing with a blocked creature let me do my +2 damage and after 1st strike let me give you -2 when you attack me.

As for the land change-i am going back and forth with it.  i think the lavaclaw should replace the ghitu, though I don't know about the badlands, having access to 2 colors, especially black, the turn it comes into play is good in this format, on the other hand you have scrublands, arid mesa, and marsh flats to pull the black mana and the firebreathing of the lavaclaw is hard to pass. screw it go with the lavaclaw, you can sort it out in testing.

"Bob" = Dark Confident (after the creator of the card) its a solid two drop with card drawing, both he and the plate are good options for a 2 drop, though plated loses its effectiveness as you slow down the land drops, while the dark continues to give you CA (not that you want the game to last to that point)

Why call Confident "Bob"? I understand that he's the artist, but why not DC or something that is makes more sense?

Dark Confidant was given as a gift to Bob Maher after he won the 2004 invitational. It was a card design he submitted, so the card was named after him. It has nothing to do with the artist. It's more catchy too.

The version that costs money has few extra features, but it's no longer supported so it's not worth buying. I have the free version.

Edit: Ghostfire, can you meet me at 5:30?  Just so we're both there at the same time.
