Title: Lightmine Field Questions

I am unclear about whether Lightmine Field is considered a mass effect or targeting effect. It states that it deals damage to each attacking creature, which to me sounds like a mass effect. However if there is only one creature attacking, would it then be effectively targeting that creature?


The reason I ask,.... I wanted to use Guardian of the Guildpact, thinking that if it attacked alone, Lightmine's effect wouldn't stick to it.....It's probably only hopeful thinking, but I wanted to get some feedback. It does seem to be a mass effect, but in relation to this situation,... I'm not sure.

In addition, would Lightmine Field's effect apply to something like this....?

question 1:  If the word "target" is not on the card it does not target anything, even if it is a mass effect aimed at a single creature.  however, while your guardian is not being targeted by the effect, since lightmine is monocolored the guardian will not take the damage

Question 2:  the griffen has pro-enchaments so it will not receive damage coming from an enchantment, lightmine is an enchantment so the damage will not hurt your griffen

Ok, thanks Gericault.....That's not the answer I expected, but I'm certainly happy about it.  So, by your definition, Guardian of the Guildpact's pro-mono-colored would also protect it from effects like Wrath of God or Damnation, then?

no it would not be protected from wog or the like

protection from anything only protects the permenant from sources causing DEBT: Damage, Equip/Ecnchant, Blocking, Targeting.  Lightmine field causes damage that is why it is protected, same with volcanic fallout and pyroclasm, it will be protected from those since they are mono-colored sources of the damage

Wog, infest, damnation all are monocolored however none of them cause damage or target (equip/blocking don't apply) which is why the guardian will be destroyed by them
