ive declared my blinking spirit as a blocker of a 3/3 creature, as they deal combat damage. my BS will surely perish.. can i use the ability to remove it from the game and still have the 3/3 creature be blocked? help

Yes you can. In fact, according to official rules, (let's assume that you are facing off against a 2/2 instead), you can actually declare blocking, wait until the damage is locked in, and then return BS to your hand - meaning the opposing creature is destroyed, and magically your blinking spirit is in your hand.
I really don't see how combat damage on the stack is supposed to make sense, but hey, I don't generate the rules. Apparently, a non-existent creature can kill something when it is not even on the field, who would of thought. :/

Unfortunately, when the 2010 rules set in, you can no longer declare an ability with damage on the stack. Enjoy the freedom while it lasts :(
