Why is the hell does WotC do this type of stuff. If you want to reprint the card, just reprint the fethin' card instead of trying to get a fast one over on your customers.

2 reasons
1) wotc is a business they want to make money, i am willing to bet that soul warden will not be in the next core set come july, so if you want that ability you have to buy 4 souls attendant. they did the same thing with civic wayfinder and that borderpatrol guy
2) They change things to make them more useful for the current game or other things they have planned down the road. Case in point Terror verse doomblade, if they reprinted terror it would be useless againest 50% of the creatures in shards block, doomblade is only useless againest 20%, the change needed to be made. This could be the case for souls attendant, notice the "may" in it, there can be stuff coming down the road which can hurt if you gain life, imagine playing soul warden againest a card that says "discard a card, for each 1 point of life you gain"
