When you have a creature with - tap 2 colorless: regenerate target creature - does this mean the creature has to die from taking combat damage or can the creature be regenerated when it dies from triggered abilities or by other means than combat damage?

When you activate a regernation ability it creates an effect which keeps your creature alive.  Think of it as creating a shield which is destoryed instead of the creature.  It does not protect creatures that are sacrificed but does againest all damage and destory effects like avatar of woe

yes it can regenerate from other means other than combat damage like from damage from spells like Lightning bolt... or from destroy effects that doesn't say "creatures destroyed this way can't be regenerated"...

However, if it doesn't say destroy, in cases like sacrifice, or remove from the game, then you cannot regenerate.  Also tapping is and effect of regeneration, not a cost, so you can regenerate a tapped creature.  Regeneration is supposed to be when you strike the creature down, it says down for a while, then recovers, so it never dies.

Yeah, what Lin-Sivvi said... Also look at the art of the enchantment card named "Regeneration from Ice Age, I think you will have a pretty good idea what regeneration does to a creature... I'll just post it here...

The creature is regenerating itself so it can't do anything hence it is tapped... If you sacrifice that creature, in other words, cut its throat and throw it into the pits, it can't regenerate itself...

No, I figured it out. You cant sac a creature for an ability then regenerate it back. It does not work.
