Turn 2-3 (based on mana supply), Drop the Protean Hydra with at least one counter on it, and enchant it with Unstable Mutation.

The Hydra will never drop below 3 toughness.
Once all of its counters are gone, it still cannot be damaged because of its prevention ability.
Any and all +1/+1 counters it loses, including those negated by the Mutation's upkeep, it gets double back, so it will shrink at first but grow at the end of your turn.
