Why not also give it Deathtouch and/or Lifelink with something like Basilisk Collar, Gorgon Flail or Quietus Spike (Ouch). A Gravity Sphere would go nicely also!

because tapped creatures are harder to work with than dead creatures and its more frustrating

There are a few cards that can remove flying from a creature. You could also kill the flyers, or play certean barriers like raking canopy. The canopy is a great complement to any anti ground decks. Only the biggest creatures can get through.

in my humble opinion, I think Traproot Kami is the best defender in the game.  0/x for 1 where x is equal to the number of forests in play that any player has and it blocks as though it has flying.  It is not uncommon to get them to 0/20 in a multiplayer game cuz someone is always playing with elves :)

LOL... I'll give you a great creature for a blocker, it doesn't even have defender... A creature named "Sentinel"...
