Title: Scars of Mirrodin Speculation

This is a thread based on things we would like to see based on the new block that's coming out in October. Everyone knows that Mirrodin is basically artifact heavy, but the storyline suggests otherwise. I believe we'll be seeing some artifacts, but I believe they'll be colored artifacts. My sources inform me that we will see Elspeth in this block, as well as Tezzeret. Post all the things you expect to see in Scars, or something you would like to see. I'll make the first predictions. Karn as a planeswalker, an abundance or colored artifacts as well as a few colorless artifacts, a 5-color planeswalker. I also think there might be a new black and green planeswalker.

Is that a prediction or wishful thinking? I highly doubt Wizards will bring that mechanic back, as much as it would tickle many players' fancy. It isn't exactly impossible, however.

Why would the bring back Elspeth and Tezzy? I don't think they would unless the are new Versions like Jace the Mind Sculptor and Chandra Ablaze were.

In the story, the only who really remain on Argentum (Mirridon) is Glissa, Slobad, and Geth. They were to defend the Mirari made by Karn. Glissa had a planeswalker spark, was transferred to Slobad. Then Slobad gave it up to save Glissa. Karn is a planeswalker, Slobad might have some left over, Glissa might of regained her spark, and Geth is a Lich..... /shrug

As for affinity, if it does come back. It will not be as common. I heard possibly the echos will return.

Artifacts will be most likely colorless so it will blend with the Eldrazi and spells accordingly. From M11 what I can tell. It will be counter based with a lot of taping?

I'm predicting an artifact sorcery or instant, colorless, cost tons, destroy target creature, Emrakul....

Elspeth felt like she let Bant down, so she decided to leave and try to find a new home. She could find her new home in Mirrodin. As for Tezzeret, he might find it offensive that a previously all-artifact plane has been corrupted by natural life. That's why Elspeth and Tezzeret might show up in Scars.

Lightning Greaves was a really nice Equip card. I'm sure they'll be bringing plenty of those for the Zendikar block Kor. I want to see Loxodon Warhammer reprinted.

I hope there are more colorless spells. Especially ones that can destroy/counter colorless spells... like Emrakul.

I really think the affinity mechanic will come back. I mean, it's returning to Mirrodin which is all about artifacts and Mark Rosewater himself confirmed a mechanic would be returning to Scars of Mirrodin. I think it'll be affinity.

i don't think affinity will be back mainly because I don't think their be alot of artifacts especially in the second set.


My rational for this is that since tezz and elspth are in it, we know it takes place after shards so we know, a millinia has passed since the end of mirrodin (glissa and slobad are most likely dead) during this time frame the mycosynth would have continued to spread turning the metal into flesh (hence the name, the scaring of the perfect world).  the few artifacts that remain will be in the process of changing and will be colored like sarcomite myr (he'll be in), there won't be colorless sorceries or instants


thats not to say I don't think there will be colorless costing creature, there will be, but I think there will be a modified sunburst type mechanic, where the creature becomes the colors you paid for it (though I also think this might be to complicated, so there will be cards like transguild courior instead which state the colors of a colorless cost)


There will be no eldrazi and i wouldn't be suprised if scars doesn;t offer a way to deal with them.  karn will return and I think that garrak will to-or at least a green based walker, especially with all the artifact hate popping up in green.  though I dont think it'll be BG as that slot is for another incarnation of nissa

It's not the source i had in mind but it's interesting though. Artifacts turn into flesh and vice versa.
So maybe we see some colored artifacts but i don't believe that all will be colored

It's important to keep in mind that the next set is going to be called "Mirrodin Pure" and the third set of the cycle is going to be titled,

"New Phyrexia."

I get shivers thinking about if they are going to bring Yawgmoth back. He did make for a really key villian throughout the series. Judging by the reference to Baron Signir in M11, I wouldn't be surprised if they bring him back as well. Possibly even Serra herself as well.

I expect many of the older legends from the past to make a comeback in this series. I'm thrilled for it.

I highly doubt the affinity will be back. Wizards wouldnt make the same mistake twice... and they need to make things more original, not to cycle abilities but to creat new ones on each expansion.

If any other mechanics come back besides scry, im thinking it'll be entwine or possibly imprint. 


Ephemerance-I have been away for awhile with limited computer access so i haven't been keeping up with things.  I know about the trademarks for the names, but I did not know that wizards made an announcement on the order of the sets.  Once scars was announced i assumed it would be scars, new phyrexia, and then mirrodin pure.  The conversion starting in scars with the myscoth and the oil, furthering in new.  and the question being what was mirrodin pure, back to the pure ideal world created by karn or the phyrexian idea of "purity". 


Like I said before Karn will return, however, I can't see yawgmoth making a return.  We still have bolas running around and since tezzerat is in scars we know bolas is involved.  I also think since elspth will be in there as an "enemy" to be dealt with become more blue in the process, her ideals of the perfect world borderline on fantasy, if she was to find the mirari she would easily be corrupted by its power to turn fantasy to reality, much like chainer was.

I also read that during sealed you will choose between Mirrodin Only or Phyrexia only... depends on the faction you like, and probably the adding of "purple mana" or some mechanic like the snow covered lands but for artifacts only. All rurmors...

purple mana is an idea that they have toyed with for about 15 years, Turbine.  The concept and idea of it is real enough, but they have scrapped it every time they thought about it.  but the rumors are really strong that they may implement it in the form of something similar to the Snow mana (like in coldsnap) if they do use it this time around.

and yah, the sword is beast.  there are 2 others also. (sword is in the Relics collection.  HEART!)

if youre counting on this card to save you in legacy, youre probably already dead by the time you have 4 mana.  Go go gadget Extirpate. (which is still better since its 1 mana, an instant, AND has split second.)

FNM's are generally Standard, so the only thing close to combo decks i see atm are Open the Vaults decks and Mass Polymorph.  either of which is a good target for this card.  same with Super Friends or Legion of Doom decks.

However, in my Legacy meta, we have Bant Survival, Charbelcher, CounterTop, Urotsokudoji (my foodchain deck),  Stax, and Thoptercombo, just to name a few.  most of these decks go off on turn 2-3, if not turn 1 on a godhand.  so Extirpate is vital here.

which explains why the F stands for Friday, if it was sat the would get into trouble calling it SnM. 


wizards does do sanctioned events outside of FNM, just not on Fridays since that slot is reserved for standard

I agree that blue/black tezzy would be great. I'm looking forward to a Spectrum Planeswalker or a Colorless Planeswalker. WotC is experimenting with the Walkers, so it's not impossible.

I dont think they are all alive.  Glissa maybe becomes elfs are long lived, geth yes because he's a lich,  then there is Slobad, as a goblin he is not long lived especially with out the spark so he;s dead, especially since it has been a couple hundred (or is it thousand) years since mirroden was last visited.  also take into considreation if  something happened to there soul traps none of them will be there


If there is a colorless planeswalker card it will be karn,  he is an artifact after all


Also the Eldrazi are not planeswalkers, they are beings that exist in the blind eternitys, and were tricked by sorin to matarialize in zendikar so they can be trapped

Yes, I am also interested in the storyline. I can't find any of the older books. I did find someone who still had a Ravnica book at a DCI tournament. I wanted it so bad :(

Infest (Damage dealt to creatures is dealt in the form of -1/-1 counters, and players in the form of Poison counters.

Well not really bringing it back. There are actually USING it. Poisonous appeared in Future Sight and was only on 2 cards. Future Sight was to give a glimpse of Mechanics, creature types and other things that would appear in the Future.

Poison counters have been around long before Future Sight. They just named it in Future Sight. And, most creatures before then didn't have to do combat damage for you to get a poison counter, they just needed to damage you in any way. I wish they would do that instead of combat damage.

@ Turbine:  You can probably still find them on ebay, or even some copies still floating on Amazon.com (i found some old iceage books on there lol).

and you can probably get them on the cheap, since any promotional cards you could have gotten with them have run out of supply LONG ago, and so ppl trying to sell them for just that would be SOL.
