Title: Who are you hoping for?

So, with the preview of Commander 2014, the announcement is that each deck will be commanded by a mono-color planeswalker with additional rules text to allow such, with blue being showcased lead by Teferi.

That said, what other old (possibly depowered, since Teferi sacrificed his power during the Mending incident) planeswalkers would you want to see captain each color?

I'd like to see Jaya Ballard for red, Leshrac for black, Serra for white, and Freyalise for green.

So Blue is Teferi, alright.
White I want Commadore Gruff. Sorry, Serra.
Definitely want Jaya Ballard for red, great idea.
Karn for Mono brown, or Urza(wishful thinking). I'd love to see a precon artifact deck.
Frey would be good for green, where would Feroz belong, though?
Lord Windgrace for Black.

Dunno who I'm really hoping for, but I know some that I think would be interesting, even though I don't know if all of them would be a mono colored walker.

Sifa Grent for black, maybe.
Vronos for White? (clearly before he gets annihilated by Garruk in the M15 game opening)
and possibly Baltrice for red.

Yawgmoth is technically a god. There is the dragon planeswalker (no, not Nicol Bolas) that died in it after making it, and there is Dyfed, but no real Phyrexian planeswalkers, at least pre-Scars of Mirrodin. Anyone know if things changed in that expansion? I thought Karn got free.

I dunno about the status of Mirrodin Post-New Phyrexia set, but I DO know that on zendikar there is/was (current status is technically unknown) good ole Ugin. Spirit Dragon planeswalker of colorless mana. I feel like he'd be neat, maybe introduce a new "colorless" colored card like Ghostflame in a deck with him as the head.

I would have to say Urza for artifacts, although, he would be the best choice for blue. Urza beats out even Jace. Urza caused the Time Spiral block. What did Teferi or Jace really accomplish? Mishra for red or black. Gerrard for white. Sissay for green. You know what? I want Squee for red. Yeah, I said it. Squee. Actually, screw Mishra. I'll take Ihsan's Shade for black and Ihsan (a Serra paladin) for white. Did I miss a color?

While those might be interesting, they are outside the topic at hand, of planeswalkers you would want to see as commanders in Commander 2014. While there is a chance, it is highly unlikely they would make any of the commanders normal creatures after showcasing ONE planeswalker commander, and they've said there will be five mono-color decks for the set.

I believe Mark Rosewater said Urza would never happen, because of how strong he was supposed to be.

Urza pretty much equals a god. I don't recall another planeswalker who was even remotely as powerful as Urza. So, you say off topic, but Urza and Mishra were both planeswalkers. I challenge anyone to produce a planeswalker who could hope to be as powerful as Urza.

Mishra was never a planeswalker. At their final battle, Urza discovered that Mishra had been turned into a Phyrexian, which is something impossible for a walker. Either his spark would have activated and got him out, or if it was already active it would have blocked the attempt to transform him.

As for Urza's power, that is part of the reason Rosewater said there would never be a walker card for him. Too much power. Urza is one of the few well-developed walkers in the game who was the level that a player is supposed to be, by the original concept of the game. It would be really hard to print a fair card that basically says, "A new player joins your team."

I would like to note that Karn got his spark from Urza. He got it by placing Urza's severed head into his chest cavity. It has been quite a while since I read the books, but Urza's had DID still carry on conversations for a time. Karn made Argentum (Mirrodin) and the Mirari. Karn Liberated is able to restart the game.
The freakier thing that no one seems to be able to tell me is HOW Karn got his spark back. Was that from Venser or did he have the new/reactivated spark before then? A regenerating spark sort of makes him like the MtG equivalent of Shazam.

Venser sacrificed his spark to re-light Karn's and free him from Phyrexia, as I recall the official story.

What this means to me however, is the next time we see New Phyrexia, we are going to have Venser phyrexianized, and his knowledge of how to traverse planes without a planeswalker spark as the word possible thing added to the knowledge pool, for the multiverse.

He did not reignite karns spark. Venser gave karn his heart so karn can be healed, then venser's spark transferred into karn in the process

Urza may have caused the time spiral block but Jace caused the most OP modern card: Big Jace!

Urza caused pretty much every set from Antiquities forward to Mirrodin, Time Spiral AND New Phyrexia. If you want to place blame. Even now, with the New Phyrexia situation unresolved and Karn free and moving again, its still Urza's aftermath, at least.

Jace may have an extreme intellect, but still wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in Hell against Urza. Or any of the other old school planeswalkers. You'd have to have read the books WAY back when to really get an idea of how powerful planeswalkers used to be before Wizards softened them up. I think even Arcanis could probably beat Jace's ass.

Urza's head got cut off, in a physical and spiritual fashion. He still lived. Urza also could change his age at will and become a pillar of light. Urza also...well...Tolaria.
I don't mean to be hard on Jace (since I don't know much about his actual character) what WAS the implicit maze exactly? I assume that is the one that Dragon Maze was all about.
