Yes, I know that there are sites to do this sort of thing, but really, why dredge through things like:

"Mister Chief-BBBGGG Legendairy creature Marine Soldier Human John; Landwalk inblockable deathtouch undestructible doubletrike first stricke virgilance unsacrificable. When Meister Chef deals damage you win game. lol noob 117/117."

When instead we can post our own.

I'm not much of a fan of joke cards, but I remembered a thread I started over at mtgsalvation, where I was trying to create cards based on myths and legends, so I thought I would bring a few over to share, so to speak:

I tried to stay as close to the source as possible, while still making a potentially playable card for each.

No, all the proper artists are credited at the bottom of the respective card, where they would be normally. I don't recall who did the art for Anubis though, and it came out too dark to read it. I don't have the computer the cards were made on anymore either, to look it up.
Kind of dates when the cards were made too. Ratatosk has hexproof, but I still have the old wording on there. Incidentally, his is obviously the only one with flavor text, which is a quote about him from the Edda, translated.
Of course these days, we know that God is now a creature type, so maybe updating the cards would be in order.

So, I made a card. Not broken in my opinion and reasonably powerful. So, here it is:

Alright, Final Fantasy IV card time, I guess:

Kain Highwind
Made as a soldier instead of a knight, because part of his history is choosing to follow his father's path and become a dragoon, rather than become a knight like Cecil did. This was also the simplest way I could think of to implement the jump attack which rendered him basically invincible until he came back down.

Cecil Harvey, Paladin
When Cecil became a Paladin, besides gaining access to some white magic and more weapons, he gained the ability to protect his team from harm by just flat out taking the hit instead. So he gets to be a modified Veteran Bodyguard.

Finally, the twins. I decided to make their Twincast separate parts that still work if you don't have both out. I need to tweak the wording on Palom to tone down the power level, more to how Genesis Wave was worded, but I am done card-crafting for now.

Nice. I did Hrist Valkyrie as well and a couple other well known characters, like Diablo, The Lord of Terror and Mephisto, The Lord of Hatred. Trying to figure out how to work Baal, The Lord of Destruction so it isn't grossly overpowered. I was thinking of something like Minion of Leshrac, or even Demonic Hoards, but that just seems over the top. I like the tap ability of the minion, but it is VERY powerful. If you aren't familiar with the Minion of Leshrac, it's 5/5, pro black, tap destroy target creature or land with a sac upkeep or it taps and deals you 5 damage. Baal being a prime evil, needs a more powerful ability, but how do I make that ability balance with a drawback? Hmmm...Diablo has a gnarly drawback that is VERY specific. Sac a human warrior or wizard during your upkeep or he taps and deals you 9 damage.

For Diablo, I would run it differently:
"Sacrifice a creature with power equal or greater than Diablo's power: Gain control of Diablo and put a +1/+1 counter on it. Any player may activate this ability."
Start him off small like in Tristram, where his 'host' was a human child and he was relatively weak by comparison to his later forms.

I was taking the Diablo 3 Diablo, but yours could work pretty well also. I figured out how to make Baal work. I also made Mephisto. By far the nastiest of the 3. Also made Aries, Lenneth Valkyrie (who's ability draws directly from the Valkyrie Profile games.) Anyway, about Baal. Protection from Black. At the beginning of your upkeep, pay 5 life or sacrifice Baal, The Lord of Destruction. T: Destroy target permanent. Sacrifice a creature: Untap Baal, The Lord of Destruction. 5/5

Goblin Sharpshooter was one of the most abused cards of its time, and your concept for Baal would be that on an ungodly dose of steroids. Black has no shortage of creatures it can feed to a demon over and over, turning Baal into "T: I Win."

Your last image is unreadable and the one before didn't link at all. I am not sure what you are using to link images, but try some simple html code:

[img src="image url"][/img]
Replacing the brackets or whatever they're called with the matching ">".

Inspired equally by my own morbid sense of humor, several cards like it, and the old cliché of "Beating a dead horse", I give you the horse that your opponent has to beat over and over.

A new addition, in my favorite vein of "jump through this other hoop over here to win" cards:

A new entry in my Final Fantasy to Card line-up:

Sword Hunter Gilgamesh
Templating on the first ability needs work, I bet, but it gets the point across. Pay off Gilgamesh with weapons to make him easier to call up, then he randomly swings one of his weapons when he goes to attack an enemy.

And one inspired by the first run of the Avatar series:

Sozin's Comet

You'd have to shuffle the library afterwards if it was searched in that way.
Otherwise I really like the flavor, though I think he should be closer to a 1/3 to start off, considering you can exile four equipment cards to make him come out second turn.
Totally think he should have Bushido. A 1/3 with Bushido 1?2? I want to say Bushido X, where X is the number of equipment cards exiled for his cost, max 4, but that seems ridiculously overpowered.
Regardless, I really like the weaponry use.

In contrast, I'm wondering if maybe the Comet is a little too expensive, how did it play test?

Frankly, I though the comet might have been too cheap. Even with no counters, it sticks around until your next turn, and can push through a lot of extra damage for only the two base mana cost.

Maybe one of those "X cannot be 0" clauses added to it. Could reasonably drop one of the Xs from the cost I guess, since its a much narrower Furnace of Rath (doesn't double combat damage, but can make it unpreventable if red).

As for Gilgamesh, think of the flip side of it. If you have no more equipment cards in your deck, will his cost still be worth it as a 1/3, bushido or not? 2/5, he has a big enough backside to take most spot removal and stay standing.

I was going to contribute to this seeing as I've wasted a lot of time in MSE, but nowhere near enough here to know how links work... How do you insert pictures into chat?(If there's an FAQ or something explaining this, link me, I've failed to find it)

PS: As much as I'd like to believe One With Death is intended to alter CMCs by removing colored symbols from them, the intention was most likely exile everything with anything else than B or colorless mana in its mana cost(realisticly, everything nonland except mono black nontokens). And reset poison for some reason

PSS: I believe the correct wording if you settle on detecting color, not mana cost is "Exile all white, blue, red, green, and colorless nonland permanents. Exile all tokens. Remove all poison counters from all players." Can't think of a correct wording that doesn't name all colors.

PSSS: The returning horse is definitely a favourite, personally preffer completely original universes / flavour, making characters from series lacks something and sets inspired by real life(mythology) are to be taken seriously, but much like theros the flavour tends to repell me.

Hey guys! I'm trying to make some proxy cards for some custom cards. Have any of you done this already? Anyway I have the blank backs of the magic cards but I'm having some difficulty getting the art to not look like shit when I print it out. I'm putting it in illustrator...because I don't have Photoshop. when I re-size it smaller to fit a magic card it looks like shit. Any of you guys do this? Thoughts? Talk amongst yourselves.

Magiccards.info is a great place to get proxies, if you want to make your own proxies, I'd grab a base of one of those and edit it from there. I'd recommend finding the resolution of those images first. As far as sizing, don't touch it, for if you cut all the white from it and place it in a sleeve over a black bordered card, it looks legit a foot and a half away with my printer, and this is with common printer paper and a four year old printer. Make sure if you are proxing white border cards you have a card with a white border behind the proxie print (don't know why you would since they are harder to come by, but it is your proxie). One that note, if you want to make your own revised card, due to the washed out nature of those pictures, a printout of that type of picture looks real in a sleeve unless under close scrutiny.

So your main challenge is getting pictures at least in the resolution of the proxie template from the website, and then editing the text to your liking. Changing the name to make it look legitimate will be the most difficult part. Otherwise the text box is simple, take a Grizzly Bears (vanilla) card and that will give you a blank top of the text box. A cancel will give you a blank bottom.

If you hunt around the font websites, there is an official Magic the Gathering font (download with caution unless you can find a trusted site, it's been a decade since I've grabbed fonts, and the favorite link is on another computer I currently can't access, otherwise I'd give it to you, if it is even still running).

I can work wonders with MS Paint. Watch the type of file you make the picture, as certain types downgrade the resolution.

The Kefka transform looks hard to pull off, but Iassume that there is a flavor reason for it.
I love zipline. It's amazing. I'd go out of my way to draft it. So much fun.

For this one, I got thinking about the various Chain spells, and how all of them were offensive/detrimental, so I decided to create a beneficial one.

For a moment I pondered making it so EACH opponent of the target could copy it, but that would just explode in larger games with people wanting to draw down to their various win conditions.
Needs to be reworded. I just realized that this could still be one-sidedly abused.

Yeah, that was the wording change I made, I just haven't uploaded the replacement card. Makes it so it has to Ping-Pong back and forth, rather than potentially having the caster discard their hand to flood their opponent's for some anti-draw combo.

Chain of Inspiration, version 2

Elm-Bind Ritual
Inspired equally by Beast Within, Lignify, and many uses of this gimmick in fantasy, here is a way to turn a dangerous opposing creature into a nice provider of shade on a hot day.

Tower of Babel
A riff on the old storage lands, and a take on the unification that led to the construction of the tower in the first place, it rewards you for using more colors, potentially tapping for all five colors at once.

In a continuing tribute to Theros' Greek inspiration, here's my take on another myth combo:

Scylla and Charybdis

Unless my memory is completely botched, the story went you could sail closer to the cliffs and feed Scylla, or closer to Charybdis and risk being pulled to the bottom of the sea. Since the pair were localized to one unknown location, Scylla gets to be a defender.

It dawns on me now, the sacrifice on Scylla should prevent it from transforming.

First two, ideas based on the old incarnation cards from the Judgment era. Discord just causing in-fighting, and Vitality as a mono-green buffer.

We had living weapons, that were equipment that made creatures. With Broom Witch, you get a creature that turns an artifact into equipment. Lethe Snake is based on the River Lethe of Greek myth, which caused amnesia.

Paradox Procession asks you what an extra turn is worth to you. Tiamat on the other hand, is just a strange dragon lord card.

Scylla and Charybdis end step effects can't possibly trigger in the same turn. To flip Scylla over, you MUST sacrifice a creature. To flip Charybdis over, a creature can't have died that turn. Since the end step is part of the turn, only one or the other can happen, not both.

This card is based off of one of my favorite D&D/Pathfinder characters I've ever played as. A Fetchling Rogue/Assassin who could literally go through entire crowds unseen due to his insanely high sneak skill. In combat he could stay out of sight, study a target for three rounds (an assassin ability) and then within a turn or two, attack the target, and if the target failed a fortitude check, it would kill them instantly. I tried to reflect that with this card. But I don't know if it's too broken, or how to balance it if it is.

"<" instead of "[". and the link itself in quotes.

Deathtouch is kind of irrelevant on a creature with shadow. There are so few other creatures with it, its almost never going to see direct combat with another creature, since nothing without shadow can block or be blocked by it, and vice versa.

As for the rest of the card, I think you can simplify it all with this:

At the beginning of your end step, Eisur Shadow of Death phases out.
Whenever Eisur Shadow of Death phases in, put a stalk counter on it.
Remove 3 stalk counters from Eisur Shadow of Death: Destroy target creature or planeswalker.

That will clear out that line below Shadow, Deathtouch, as the rules for phasing in and out cover that already. And the space saved will allow for some flavor text, which interesting legend cards always seem to get.

In response to seeing a planeswalker card that is able to be a commander for commander/edh decks, I present this card:

First ability makes every planeswalker a creature and thus vulnerable as such.
Second ability is to prevent a 6 loyalty planeswalker from getting killed by a 3/3 in combat. When a planeswalker is dealt damage, that many counters are removed by the default rules. Without this clause, that would reduce it to a 3/3 with 3 damage dealt to it, and kill it.

In retrospect, I almost feel like I should bump up the mana cost, and add a planeswalkers must attack clause to it.

I'd say its ok. High cost, low power creature, takes 3 turns to even be able to kill anything. Just those touches I suggested would be the only changes I'd make.

As for balance, compared to current cards, its more than fair. Look how abusable other cards are these days, for less mana.

Just because Kefka was so insistent about Squee as a commander, I decided to make a new version of Squee, based on events slightly earlier in the story than his Nabob-hood.

When the Weatherlight first entered Rath, and The Predator and its crew attacked, Squee hid in a cabinet with his favorite little artifact, evading capture and keeping that one item from being taken.

Thus, as a card based off that time frame, whenever hostilities occur that could endanger Squee, he is able to duck out of sight and take a toy, or a friend with him.

These two cards are based off another Pathfinder character of mine and his Eidolon. The idea behind them is that Mannimarco can function as a caster without his Eidolon, TIM. But TIM needs Manni to function at all. The evolution counters thing is to represent Evolution points in Pathfinder that the Summoner gains as he levels up, and can spend them on different evolutions for his Eidolon, which he can change every time he levels up. Eventually the Summoner gets the ability to transfer some evolution points on himself.

Between Khans of Tarkir, and my own recent play time of Civilization V, I felt I should make this card.
Rather than give the standard lord +1/+1, he gets all your warriors on horseback, giving basically the same thing.
I refuse to even consider Horsemanship. It was the replacement for flying in a limited, ironically magic-less set of Magic, resulting in it being a broken version of shadow if used outside that set.

On a further note:

Its not quite my Elm-Bind Ritual card idea above, but still kind of cool to see, given the shared concept.

Inspired equally by finding this art on Deviantart, Time Elemental, and Jhoira of the Ghitu, I came up with this thing.

It can be used to push a threat out of your hair for a few turns, or to make sure a card you need goes off the turn it needs to uninterrupted.

As a note, if this creature dies, that third ability WILL stop applying, allowing normal counterspell interaction with suspended spells.

Latest card, inspired by a classic SNES game and probably still the top voted rpg game ever:

Decided to try my hand at the new modal card format (no easy way in Magic Set Editor). First choice based on her being the in-game pyromancer of Chrono Trigger. Second based off her returing Robo to a functioning state despite being centuries more advanced than her time.

Kakashi, from Naruto

D, from Vampire Hunter D

For Kakashi, I tried to capture his reputation as Copy Ninja Kakashi, as well as include a magic version of the Substitution Jutsu (bouncing and manifesting a replacement. Thanks Fate Reforged for a new mechanic).

For D, pretty much any time in his story line that someone tried to kill him with some cheap trick, he failed to die or even stay dead if he did die, thanks to that hand of his, which plays into the second ability, being able to just devour things with the hand to get rid of threats.
